theres some conspiracy to this i heard.. something about how the government doesnt want us to know the benefits of it. i just remember hearing that they may have rigged the results because of unknown outside influences.

rude to who exactly?

i'm stating my opinions and the lack of facts of anything remotely saying that adding acetone, of all things, to a gas tank is beneficial.

next thing you know, people are buying rubbing alcohol at their local drug stores and doing the same thing because they saw a video somewhere online..

perhaps people actually also believe the tennis ball opening a car door trick that was shown on another internet video.. (that mythbusters themselves tested as well)

we're talking about internet videos that the OP mentioned about... and i'm sure from that, there's also other websites and whatnot making claims.

hey, how about you add sugar in your gas tank and see if that does anything... you know... like alot of internet websites claim it does something. rude? only to those who are rude themselves enough to not bother reading and expect to be handed stuff on a silver platter.

sorry, the only real practical way to increase gas mileage significantly is by driving like grandma... weight reduction also helps.

i feel that your reasoning is completely valid and i happen to agree with you more than some of the more outlandish things ive heard, and on top of that i understand that you are a well respected person/contribution to these forums but i think that you could have replied in a different manner. perhaps less offensively? i just dont appreciate the way you answered back to my post, thats about it.

couldnt agree more..

dealing with people with aftermarket parts all day. i get those people that ask me about how to save gas with this crap. i simply tell them "stop shoving the pedal to floor everywhere." (yet im guilty of doing this myself, im not one who complains about gas prices.)

you want milage? there.

gas tanks are for gas.
not sugar.
not salt.
not crazy random things over the counter.
not water, hydrogen or "corn fuel"

for the record, im just saying you dont put water in a gas tank.
put water in a water tank.
or a glass or jug.
or pool.

I know PLENTY of mechanics that have and recommend that rubbing alcohol in your gas tank will help evaporate water in the gas. If you look at the bottles of "water evaporator"
and it is basically that, rubbing alcohol.
I have tried this many times on previous cars and it works,
I have heard of the acetone thing but never tried it.

Adding acetone bumps the octane rating. May improve milage, but old time drag racers used to, and still do, add it for more power. Let's them advance timing. ANd cheaper than race fuel.

Tolulene will do the same thing. 3 gallons tolulene and 7 gallons 93 octane gives you a 109 octane race fuel. Ran it a few times myself in my old race car.

well... i'm gonna add the snopes link (because snopes is the shiznet)

http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/acetone.asp

and lock this sucker up.

as previously mentioned, there are smarter ways to get better mileage.. but widgets, gadgets, and other small doodads aren't the answer.
