Default Aerodynamic xB?

If the car had better Aero would it get better MPG and by how much?

How could you make their car get better Aero?

Yeah, really. The xA and xB are pretty much the same car with different bodies. It would be hard to design a better experiment on the effects of aerodynamics from scratch.

If the xB had 500 more horsepower, how much faster would it be?

it has a drag coeficient of .34 or .36 i forget. whcih means it's actually quite aerodynamic.

i think, that big bumper sticking out has alot to do the aerodynamics of the car, notice when it rains, water puddles on the hood, not much airflow, must force air up and over the car, my theroy on xBdynamics

Considering the xA has the same drivetrain. The xB would be within 1-2 mpgs of the xA.

The xB has a .35 drag coefficient. That's pretty good.

Lots of these topics lately.

It's not as bad as you think, with the stated drag coefficient...

The rounded nose is reminiscent of the pre-WW2 teardrop cars, and the rear has a near perfect Kamm effect...

It's the tall profile that negatively affects aerodynamics, more than anything else...

believe it or not ^^he is right

the xB is actually quite aerodynamic, not like a vette or a viper, but still aerodynamic

the sloping sides and curve of the bumper allows for air to flow around it

and the slope of the window, while not great allows for air to shoot striaght up and over , but the boxienss and flat panels and roof creates a draft or drag in the back which swallows air up, which is whay the backs of xB's get so dirty so quick

and the hood beads and puddles because it is not very convex it is more flat than anything

The Echo was basically the same car also--much better aero then either the xA or xB. My wife got 40MPG in hers. It was made pretty cheap though--and if you looked at it you would dent it.........

the echo has different gearing and weighed about 200-300 pounds less than xa/xb that's wy it got 40mpg , NOT aerodynamics!

I actually use a bug deflector. I was murdering bugs at an unbelievable rate until I used the deflector. I did make a difference. I've been hitting 33to 34 mpgmy last 4 tanks also!

I've been wondering recently if the windshield area was tilted back more, what effect that might have? Might even help with minimizing the rock chip effect!

I don't think there's any question of that. But losing the upright windshield means losing the feeling of spaciousness from having all that air between you and the front of the roof, and I wouldn't be willing to trade away any of the interior "bigness" which is part of what I bought the car for in the first place.
