I had my console off today. It's a bulb, but it's tiny. Like way smaller than a 194. If you can find either a new bulb or small LED with that base, it'll take you 30 seconds to swap it.
EDIT: Okay, looking at Autolumination, it appears to be a #74 bulb. Incandescent ones are $.99 and LED are $2.50.

I ordered a #74 LED. I figure for 2.50, I might as well find out.
To remove the center console, you unscrew the bolt in the back cupholder. Pull up on the parking brake. Grab the front of the console under the front cupholder and pull up. This will dislodge it from the front clip. Then it's just a matter of removing it.
When you look at the left hand side of the shifter you will see two red wires. These lead to the bulb. It uses a twist lock connector. Twist it, and the bulb comes out. The stock one is an incandescent with a bulb condom on it. Pop the new one in and it should work. Keep in mind that they will probably be sensitive to polarity, so if it doesn't work, flip it and try again.
I'll put up pics as soon as I do it.

I got a a white LED. I have the white neo-wedges in my HVAC controls and they're working great, so this should be fine too.
While I was at autolumination, I also bought a 36LED domelight and new LED 194 bulbs for the license plate.

Okay so it does work.
I did it tonight. Keep in mind that the #74 LED needs to be trimmed a bit to fit the base. The shoulder just above the leads has to be shaved down a bit, otherwise the bulb won't click in. It's just plastic, so there's no worry about it.
Once you remove a bit of the plastic, it will pop right in (it is sensitive to polarity...) It does look really nice. There's a slight hot spot, but it's below neutral, so it doesn't really stand out.
I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.
(on the other hand, the 36 LED domelight from autolumination does not fit.... no matter what.)
