anyone traded in a box
well i bought my xb when gas prices were high instead of buying a truck, im kicking myself in the ___ and really want a truck. what have people been getting ballpark for tradein i know it will vary but i have an 06 manual, 3k miles, only addon was arm rest.
Well, you always lose $$$ when you trade....but....
You might want to rethink trading at this point. Gas prices are starting to edge back up and will probably continue to do so.
You might want to wait on that truck purchase. I'm hoping by the 2008 model year, we'll be seeing a Tacoma DIESEL

I sold my 04 xB to the dealer for about 11,500 with I think about 3xk on the clock, another dealer offered me 9k meh.
I was testing the waters for selling my 05 xB with 24k for a while and was getting quite a few bites asking 13,500 which really suprised me. I like the box too much to part with it so I kept it.
It seems the xBs are holing good value, better than any car I have ever seen before. Not sure if it will stay like this for too much longer but you will def get some good resale value on it if you sell it.
BTW: I was thinking of selling my box for a full size chevy, after realizing what gas would cost me on top of double the car payment and already having paid off 1/3 of the box I decided to pass.. maybe someday when I have $25/day to spend on gas going to work but not yet.

It mostly depends on where you live. I've heard stories of people almost breaking even because demand is so high. I would think you should lose no more than a grand of so worst case senario. Otherwise sell it private party. No reason to let the stealership make booku profits on both ends of the deal.
the day i bought my car some idiot bought a 05 with about 30k miles on it with trd wheels for 17k at the same dealer
i really like the new silverados or i can get a new 06 silverado ss with the 6.0 motor for 25k brand new since my grandfather worked a chevy plant, i dont know what i want to do yet i already have a 06 tahoe too. i went from a 12 second car to a 17 second car that sounds like its going to explode on the highway it revs so high and the dashboard squeaks if i look at it
Stock used XB at a dealer lot for $16,995 in Chico, CA yesterday. I didn't stop to look at mileage or condition. I was too busy laughing.
I've owned a lot of cars, and I've NEVER seen one hold it's value like the XB.
It's interesting to watch prices on the latest hot car when it is released. Once the availability is there, prices tumble. A good example (for those that were around) is the PT Cruiser. People were paying huge amounts over list price when they were first introduced. And now...
So Toyota limits production on all Scion models. Supply and demand. We're in a exclusive "niche" in the automotive world. And that keeps resale prices up.

You may need a truck more than your XB. But as you drive it off the dealers lot, just as the front wheels hit the street, open your wallet and throw a couple thousand dollars out on the ground. That's how much you will loose in resale value the first week of ownership. You can say that pretty much about any car.
Except for the XB.

Yeah, resale on the xB is ridiculous. Back in late 2003, I looked at the upcoming xB and kind've laughed at the diminutive HP and box styling. I bought a $24k SUV instead. 2 1/2 years later (when I sold it to get an xB), that SUV had lost $10k. On the other hand, a 2004 xB dropped less than $2k. But I seriously don't understand how used stock xBs are being sold for more or the same price as new ones.
I considered trading in or selling my xB just to make a profit. However, I love my car too much to do so at this point. It's pretty amazing. The only car other than the xB that I've seen with a resale like ours is the Mini.

With Republicans out gas will go back down to .99 a gallon like they were when Dems were in office.
With troops coming back home tensions will drop and gas will also.
But anyway back on track.....
The xb will hold it's resale value especially with the current body style being discontinued.

Bush is still in office and will be for the next 2 years and if you think he is "a lame duck" think again. He is an oilman. Oil = money and government likes money, Republicans and Democrats.
2. It was on track.
The author was debating getting a truck with the price of gas "low" (if you can call 2.38/gal low).
Gas will go up and probably match Europe's $4+ per gallon. Dems in power mean taxes, taxes, taxes. Pullout of Iraq will be a vacuum and that regions oil will be pulled off the table.
So keep the xb and get a Hummer H3...

I had mine (05 RS2 with 26K miles in AMAZING condition) appraised at a dealer last week for trade-in and I was offered $10,500 - they said that there was no extra value for the Release Series and that most people don't want a yellow car so they would have a hard time selling it, and that's supposedly what they are going for at local auctions. I promptly grabbed my keys and walked out. And this was a Scion dealer.

I generally agree with the color statement, but I don't think it's applicable in this case. Someone looking to buy an xB should recognize the yellow is the RS and expect it. It's not as if the color were a choice. I certainly wouldn't expect it from a Toyota/Scion dealer.
If you're going to sell it and don't want to hassle with private party sale, take it to Carmax and they should offer the KBB good ($11.7k) to excellent ($12.5k) trade value. Then take that cash and buy your new vehicle. When I was buying my xB, the salesman even offered to follow me to Carmax and bring me back to the dealership to buy from him! It was an impressive offer since the nearest Carmax is over 40 miles away and it was a Saturday (presumably a busy sales day).

Most (not all) dealers are theives. They only want to make as much money as possible. They will try to steal your trade because they know most people just want to get rid of it and get something new. If trading a box, just stay clear of Toyota/Scion dealers unless you're friends with a salesman and they truely care about you.
