Default Best bulbs for my XB with projectors.

Ok, so here is the deal..... I drive at around 4:15 AM to work each morning and my drive is on a back road with no street lights and a lot of fog. (Sounds like a horror movie) The question I have is what would you suggest to be my best solution for lighting? I currently have installed on my car these headlights

I know these headlights do not recommend using a HID kit in them but I want to know if anyone has had any success at all with putting some in these headlights. I also want to know which non HID bulbs work best for your money when it comes to brightness.....I am currently looking at some Sylvania Silverstars just for the fact they seem to be good and I can get them today.

Any suggestions?

A lot of people run hids with those lights.

4300K is perfect IMO

Buy a kit from Cliff in sponsored sales, you can't go wrong

Just do HID and be done with it.

HID actually burns cooler than a regular halogen... the only reason it's not recommended is because the optics on those headlights were designed around halogen... but HIDs will work fine.

Ok I guess my next question would be what kind should I buy since the stock XB headlights use one bulb, but these projectors use two (one for high and one for low)?

you only will use the hid in the low beams and that bulb is a 9006, but make sure you tell cliff that it's for the xb so you get the right connector.

You don't need the highbeam to be HID... leave those bulbs alone... all you need is the low beam... not sure what bulb size is though... although I'm sure someone with these can chime in... like Doug.

The way these headlights work is that there is a splitter going from my stock connection which changes the bulb size. Would you recommend just hooking the HID kit into the splitter so that I would still have the high lights or would you just go straight into the stock connection and not use the high slot that is on the headlight? Does that make sense?

i know in real projector housings like from a bmw etc. they use a fitment of D2S or D2R but since these are 'aftermarket' projects im sure they only require the 9006 size, but ask if you need to glare shield still so you dont have flares or blinding beams to on coming traffic.

there is some good info and some horrible info here.

if you are going for function, get regular halogen bulbs for your projectors. the projectors in those headlights are made for the optics of a halogen bulb. NOT hid. an OEM hid setup uses a projector thats made to correctly illuminate the beams of your headlights.

you are going to have horrible results if you just slap an "hid kit" in there. i promise you. the hotspots will look like crap and you will annoy other people on the road.

Unless you are going to get some HID projectors and retrofit them in these headlights, stick with a halogen bulb. the silverstars are GREAT.

8000k? 12000k? that will have less light output than stock bulbs. many people dont understand this.

people merely do this to hopefully look cool and that is it because they are not an "upgrade" by any means. in fact, they would be a downgrade if anything.

um...snowromance...were you targeting me with the whole 8000k and 12000k thing cuz i think you were...

Let me just clarify that know that 12000k light output is about the same as a blacklight, thats why its going in my highbeams (which i never use) just so its different...

the 8000K is by no means a downgrade to a halogen bulb, yeah its not complete light output but its still close to 3 times brighter than halogen

unless you know what you are talking about, dont say anything because it kind of makes you look stupid...just my .02
