Best Cruise Control?
I did the Rostra one. Scion sells the exact same one but a little more expensive. Look at Allscion parts. The price is not too bad. I installed it myself which wasn't very hard. You can look at the instruction manual on trdsparks to see if you think you are getting over your head. But it is relatively easy to install.

I did not find it easy to install. I studied my instructions and tried to walk through the installation on my car. I felt that I could understand the instructions but was physically too large and stiff and farsighted to get under the dash and see many of the connections. Previously I had been able to install my own fog lights, but the cruise control had many more under-dash connections.
Others may tell you the cruise control is easy to install, and no harm trying. If you buy from AllScion, they will locate an installer near you, who you can fall back on if you decide you cannot do it yourself. I ended up taking my kit to the installer, who did it using two people in an hour for $150.
The only cruise I know of that comes in a kit specifically for the xB is the Rostra. I shopped around a bit and found generic cruise controls, but figured I'd be better off with something that came with specific instructions.
I would have been even better off if the instructions were more specific, but that's a long story. The short version is that some folks find it easy; some don't.
On the do-it-yourself-or-don't question, I'm of two minds. If I'd known two things that aren't in the manual, I'd have been happy doing it myself. Absent those two things, I would have been very happy paying someone $150 to do it.
The two things: one - you need a wrench with a short handle to work on the throttle bits (right tool for the job and all that, which I have now, but didn't then); two - it's possible (though not easy) to unplug the wire bundle that goes into the fuse box, and you can then pull the wire bundle down a bit to get at the one wire you need to put the t-tap on.
Once I'd figured that bit out, I was golden. Getting there, though, was the proverbial bear.

I have the 06 factory option cruise control, a Rostra I guess from reading here. I paid the money to have it installed at the dealer.
The cruise work fine, but the labels on the cruise are blocked by the steering wheel. Also it hits my knee sometime. Still happy with it.

In an earlier thread, someone posted a photo of how they installed the stalk closer to the dash so it would not hit their knee. Being 6'-2", I printed the photo and gave it to my installer.

I recently talked to the dealership and the guy told me (mind you not a maintenance person) that Scion has moved away from offering cruise control as an option. Something about how the electronic controls of the traction control were affected by the more mechanical controls of the cruise system?
If anybody can shed some light on this I would appreciate it! I had cruise on my xA which was a 2005--not quite sure why they would suddenly stop offering it.

Scion's never offered cruise on the xB or the xA. It's a dealer-installed option. I suppose it's possible that they're discouraging dealers from installing it, but that's a somewhat different issue.

Yeah he said that some dealerships are probably still doing it but as someone said discouraged to do it.
I know cruise control was a dealership installed option, but it used to be listed in the build your scion website when I purchased my xA.

Well, as far as discouraged goes, the price local dealers were charging for installation sure discouraged me from ordering it. (I got pretty discouraged while I was installing it, but that's another story...)
I paid about $200, plus a huge amount of frustration installing the thing. During the worst of it, I was almost thinking it would have been worth the $549 (plus 8.8% tax! - total nearly $600!) to have the dealer do it.
In the long run, I saved a bunch of money and gained useful knowledge, neither of which would have happened if I'd gone the dealer route.

Looking at the way the Rostra unit is tailored to the xB, I wonder how anyone could use a universal kit:
The length of the Rostra throttle cable is made for the xB, also the way it connects to the car's throttle.
The wiring harness is made for the xB, with the right wires and lengths.
The special connectors are made to mate with the xB's connectors and fuse panels.
The Rostra control module works with the xB's speed sensor.
The Rostra instructions specifically show the xB.
