HAHAHA!!!!

I laugh cause when I picked up the car from the dealership today, I started it and then turned it off right away, went inside, interrupted my salesman who was with another customer, and told him there was something wrong with the car and this blue water light was on... he told me what it was for, and I then looked like an idiot. I think I'll be reading my manual tonight. haha.

If you have the Auto tranny, it will not shift into 4th until the light is off!

That's interesting, akxb! The service manual hints that the temp is near 173, since that's the temp they show for testing the thermostat just starting to open, and the light is supposed to indicate the engine has reached minimum 'normal' operating temp.

If the light is actually going off in the 140 range, that is a surprise to me.

Do any of the other folks out there have a digital temp readout hooked up so we can see what sort of variation there is on this?

(One of these days I'm going to have to get me a ScanGuage and find some place to mount it. :D )

Heheheheheh... Yup, the 130 guess is closer than the info in the service manual, which is why I hope we can get some other solid empirical info on actual, measured 'light out' temps.

Good call, Sciond!

I posted about this a while ago. Now, I wait 40 seconds, drive slowly, gently let the trannie shift up to third gear, then the light's off within 2-3 minutes.
The point is, the car won't shift into overdrive until the light is off.

Hey Tomas,
Great idea, though I don't know how many people have a digital gauges for their xb. When I posted awhile back on a thread about the scan gauge some people thought I was trying to advertise it but I just really love the product so much and have used it constantly. I even used it on two friend's cars to check their trouble codes and clear their computer since it works on just about every car 96 and up. Anyway ya, everytime without fail the blue light goes out between 137 and 138. I also noticed once in the summer that the electric fan kicked in somewhere around 195 i want to say. Don't remember on that one for sure but was between 195 and 205 i think. It's only kicked in once since I've had the car in september.

I have a regular auto meter temp gauge and when the blue light goes off it has no even moved yet and it starts at 140 so it must be around 130.. I will say this much these motors stay very cool!! I have not broke 195 yet....

I dont Tomas, but it will be one of the first things I do.
Im comfortable with Scions system, but Actual Temp is always nice to know.
My uncle always monitored Vacum for Fuel milage.
