buying an XB, but need some help
i came across the forums on a yahoo search, and thought id ask some questions.
im 16 right now, and im thinking about getting my own car. I want something that looks really sweet on the inside and outside, and is more of a show car than some speed demon(though it should have some decent speed). However, i dont know anything about cars lol. So i thought i would ask you, I like the box look, but ive never driven it or ridden in it, so not sure. and im looking for more of like a club/asian type car that gets the girls. If i do get one, i will be sure to bring it down to a shop, and really put some sweet stuff into it. So i am thinking the XB
So if you guys here could let me know about the XB and what kind of mileage and mods it can do, and how appealing it is to people and such, it would make this easier. and if im 16, am i allowed to buy it from the dealership, or should i just get it used? if i get it from the Dealership, is it better?
Also, is anyone 19 or younger and has a Scion that your doing monthly payments on, if so, id like to hear your experience about that
here are my needs:
What im looking to do:
Body kit
Lights on bottom of car
Lights in guages(like blue or green or something)
maybe a customized paintjob
Spinners and NICEE wheels
SPEED upgrades
let me know,
thank you all very much

The scion xB is a great car for modding, hand's down. It's like a gaint aftermarket canvas. The car isn't that fast but with a little work and some well spent money, it could put up a decent fight.
The xB get's great mileage, about 34 mpg, which is awesome for the size of the car.
Keep in mind that all the stuff you want to do in your list is quite expensive. You could spend well over $6000 on what you want, and that's not even the best quality stuff. I'm guessing you or your parents are loaded haha.
As for buying the car, you can't legally own anything until you are 18, you're parents will have to sign for the car. I would recommend going to a dealership because right now the scion xB is worth more used than new depending on it's condition.
I'm 18, and my car is in my parent's name. It probably will be forever because insurance is much cheaper this way. We financed it for five years with GAP at 6.9% apr. My monthly payments are $303. I pay $200 and my parents cover the rest, which is good.
If you like the way the xB looks, that's all that matters. Remember when you're deciding on a car, it's what YOU like, not what everyone else likes. You have to drive it. Ten million people told me not to get an xB, that it was ugly and boxy, but I love my car dude. It's different and turns heads, and sure enough after I got it, all the haters became lovers.
If you're digging the xB and want a nice ride, definately go for it. They're cheap, efficient, and fun!

check out the consumer reports car issue....the box rates right up there with the top "others"(will make your parents happy)
also the list of possible mods is aawwsummmm!.
gas economy depends on how you drive it...really good if you drive conservitively.(girls parents like this)
and much to the bad if you drive like a bat outta hell [and lose your license..]..
ie; no job,no $$,no box....no girls!
and SL members are ALWAYS watching.......
but try cutting the bs and just be yourself will go a lot farther with the girls..altho the box may help(they think your are saveing $$ just so you can spend it on them!)
just my 1.5 cents worth

yea the xb is a sweet ride, but like ihz said u gotta be 18, and most band wont finance you without a job and all that junk. as far as your mods go, you really cant make an xb fast fast, they move but not that much. but for your mods to do it right your are looking at a ton of bank, and some of that stuff is going to eat your milage. honestly if you are a new driver, go buy a pos for 1000-2000bux and learn to drive, i flipped my first car when i was 16 due to brakes locking up on a corner, but i learned so much in the first year of driving by myself, i am so glad i had a pos car and not a nice one(s) like i have now. wait a while, read the forums talk to people, and most of all never skip the chance to keep your mouth shut and listen to what older people have to say. all in all just wait a few years and learn and then go to town. good luck with the xb if you do get one.
I agree that this is the best ride I've owned. Just a lot of fun. But it is not a muscle car and never will be. There are guys on the forums who've dropped thousands to squeeze an extra 10-12 hp out of the car. And while that hp increase is not insiginificant in these cars, you're gonna get beat off the line by pretty much any other decently modded car out there.
So decide what you want. If you want to race, you probably won't be happy. If you want style, the xB has loads of it. And don't get me wrong; it's a blast to drive. Upgrade the handling a bit, and you can have a lot of fun on country roads.
As for the ladies, well, I'm pushing middle age (not there yet), married, and most definitely not in the market. But I work with a number of young ladies. Older ladies often think it is ugly. Most of the guys just hate it (not all). But the young ladies think it is "cute" and want a ride. Don't give them a thrill ride - you want them relaxed and comfortable riding in your car.
So my advice - do it. Spend some on performance, maybe on a CAI, improved suspension, alloys. Then read the forums here and do some strickly appearance mods - cold cathode lighting, etc. Do them yourself - you don't have to be technically minded for most of the appearance mods.
And again on the ladies - my wife loves the purple cathodes were putting in her camry. Make it a showcar that a young lady wants to be seen in, and you should have no trouble keeping the passenger seat filled.

AND makes her parents quite happy as well
Don't expect ANY power out of the box. They are fun cars to drive and Mod, but they are slow slow slow. You can not go wrong for mileage and practicality with the box.
