Default Cam sensor replacement

I've had my 2005 xB for a couple of months (40K mi). The cel lit up the first time about 10 days ago. It would stay on for a couple of days, then go off, on, off. I finally got it scanned while it was on and 4 of the 6 codes were for the cam sensor. I've looked through the tech docs and I can't find where this thing is. Has anybody replaced their cam sensor? If so, any info would be appreciated.

There is an outside chance you need the cam timing gear replaced there is a bulletin about that I think. It is plastic and can crack.

I started getting warning lights about 72,000 miles. Dealer scanned it, came up with Timing codes... they said that it is the cam sensor or the camshaft sprocket thing cracked, or the magnets on the cam sprocket fell off so the sensor can't read the timing. $100 part, $535 labor to fix. They said it wouldn't hurt it, so I just kept on driving it. Up to 85k miles now, no problems except slight drop in MPG from 36+ to around 32 MPG. Engine idles and runs fine, all highway driving 60 or more miles per day. From talking to another dealer, this is a common problem on the 1.5 Liter engines in the XA, XB, Echo, and Prius but usually they don't see them until 200,000 miles or so. ????????? Does anyone have any more info on this topic ????

I replaced my cam sensor -- but I had the codes and a symptom -- high RPM idle. The part was $100, labor was in my driveway took 1/2 hour or so. Codes went away for a day or so, then they were back. Turned out there was a TSB out there that referenced these codes. Took it to Toyota (printed out the TSB). No charge, covered under the drive train warranty. I found the TSB here.
