Can you help me decide PLEASE?
Hi there this is first post and I joined her for one sole reason, and that is the xB caught my attention bigtime. I live in Los Angeles and I drive a Mitsubishi Evolution IX which I love to death, what I don't love about this car is the fuel economy, that's why I am considering purchasing a second vehicle and use it as a daily driver.
My priorities are:
1. GREAT MPG, at least 320 miles/tank (coz I usually only get 200-220 on my Evo)
2. Safety standard features: front/side/curtain airbags, ABS, etc.
3. Easy to ride.
4. That's it!
My choices are: model (MSRP) city/hwy epa
06 Scion xB ($14610) 26/30
07 Mini Cooper or Mini Cooper S ($18050+) 27/36
07 Honda Civic LX ($16960) 26/34
07 Nissan Versa S ($12250) 26/31
07 Honda Fit (13850) 28/34
I use the NEW EPA RATING which all 2008 model will have. If you don't know what I'm talking about here it is: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...umn=1&id=22128

I discarded the Toyota Corolla because most safety features don't come standards and that was a turn off. I really liked the MINI until I found out it requires premium fuel. Apparently the battle is between the xB and the Fit. Fit getting considerably better mileage according to the new epa but that was until i saw a post about some guy getting 400+ miles a tank... i was shocked to say the least.
I'm not sure how much time i have to get the xB coz the new 2008 model are coming out pretty soon. Maybe, I could get a used one... i don't know

The price range your looking in is comparable. So go with the car you like best. For the money you can't beat the XB. The Nissan is cheaper but ultmately buy what you like the most and can afford. Its a great feeling getting into a car you really like.
Also I believe the MPG's is higher than the numbers you have. My sticker on my new XB says 30-34.
Be advised that the 06's are going fast and if you want one time is not your friend.
The 08's, which will be coming out soon are a little bigger, less boxy, more money and get worse fuel economy.

The xB is great... the only thing that I will tell you is that if safety is a big concern of yours, the Fit will offer better standards there. The 1st gen xB does not have side curtain airbags, as a result, they did not do well in the crash tests for side impact. Front and back were fine. Otherwise, the xB is a hell of a car and you'd certainly be happy with one.

Since you already have a fun sporty car (the evo) I'm assuming you will drive somewhat easy with your commuter. If that's the case you can get exellent mpg out of the xB. I've regulary gotten 35mpg out of mine and it's stock except for a k&n panel filter. While "hypermiling" my best tank average was 46mpg. 30+ mpg should be easy for anyone with a stock xb.
If you can stand not having side airbags, I say go for for the scion xb.
Otherwise my second choice for the money would be the Honda Fit. Not sure how people are doing with those, but it looks like a great package for the money and it's rated a little higher on fuel mileage.
Just my .02 Hope you enjoy whatever you get and if it's a scion, we're here for you!

The back seat of the xB is worlds better than the Fit. The box is roomier overall. However, the Fit has more storage in the hatch.
I would test drive both and make your decision on the style and functionality that both offer. You'll be happier with your decision then. To me, the Fit looks like a shrunken minivan and the interior was too claustrophobic for me. I can certainly see the appeal of it though. Both Toyota or Honda will get you a highly reliable engine, so go off of which you like better.

If fuel efficiency and safety concerns are top of the list, you're better off with the Fit. I'd suggest driving both and seeing how you feel about actually using 'em.
In practice, the Fit is about 6-9% more fuel efficient than the 2004-2006 xB, which isn't necessarily a big difference.

THE FIT IS NOT GO! I REPEAT THE FIT IS NOT GO! consumer reports hated the fit.. nd the rumor is much bigger, cooler, hotter, requires cooler people to drive, and is DAM SEXY! ITS PR0N ON WHEELS BABY! ive seen the fit, i know someone who has it and they dont like it. the fit is NOT go!

Even though the fit is supposed to be around $15,000, they don't have any in stock around here. So No test drive. When I asked the dealer if they could really be had for $15,000, He said it would be closer to $17,000.....which means they are jacking the price. At least with the xb they won't try to jack you for an extra 3 grand....

I'm single now but I'm thinking ahead in the future. Hopefully, I'd have children and all and I would like them to be secure and everything and fitting them on the Fit look kinda clumsy, the xB is much roomier than the Fit.
You think is there any chance of getting an xB sometime in august/september this year?

I just called a dealership in Utah and he said he didn't have any and promised to get back to me so he could check the other dealership. Well apparently there are only 4 2006 xB in the whole state of Utah ... I think I better get one here in California while im here...
I also called the honda dealership in UT and they ran out of Fit. Salesman told me it is a limited production car.

we have almost 42000 on our box and have been extremely happy with it!
I think you will too. the box is soooo much more roomier then the fit. they are both excellant vehicles, but I think you would be much more happier with the box.

You just have to sit in each, see what "Feels" right to you. It was the xB for me I have had mine over a year and it feels like a brand new car to me every time I drive it...go with your first instinct, it's usually right.
