Default Car Cover illegal ?

Unfortunately I do not have access to a grage these days, its ok because I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood. I wanted to purchase a car cover to put over the box , but if a cop car were to roll by would they write up a ticket ? They drive way is full and I hate leaving the car out on the street.

That may cause you to have some issues with the law...

I think what he may be referring to is neighborhood restrictions. Some neighborhoods have a governing body that decides what is and is not allowed in the neighborhood. You CAN get in legal trouble breaking the "laws" specific to your neighborhood. If in doubt, contact your neighborhood association and ask for a copy of the covenants and restrictions.

When I got my xB i looked for this very thing in my neighborhood's C&R, and found that they don't ban car covers, but do ban many other things. For example, it's illegal to have a car visible from the street that is not operable, or to have a car visible from the street that is marked with a company name or advertisement.

It definitely varies by area, and some of them can be pretty bizarre...so read before you get yourself warned and/or fined!

Should not be illegal if you're parking it on your property. It might violate your homeowner's association rules (assuming you live somewhere that has an association). If so, the association could fine you (or the owner of the house) for it. Don't pay the fine, they can put a lien on the property.

If you're talking about parking on the street and putting a cover on it, that could be a problem. That might get you a ticket since your tags would be obscured? I'd call the county police and ask.

I think your license plate still has to be visible. Thats why alot of good car covers have the clear plastic where the plate is.

That one car commercial comes to mind where the cover was airbrushed to make the car look like a hooptie so no one would mess with it. Also that Enterprise commercial where the car was completely wrapped up in paper and still being driven.

You might could but the cover would have to be water proof and the car clean and dry. How you liking that ice storm you had? I heard all about it from friends and relatives. We had 70 degrees yesterday.

That ticket was perfectly reasonable. In New York state its illegal to have any type of bracket on your plates. If it was a clear bracket it'd be fine, but thats it.

We have that law in texas, supposedly, but its NEVER enforced. My dealer gave me my car with an "illegal" plastic thing on it's plate.

Actually the "ice storm" missed us, but we did have school closed 'cause it was -30+ winchill! really typically winter is never as bad as the news makes it out to be, and this years was just cold, not TOO much snow.... gdm salt trucks keep going though gets the car dirty so freaken fast!
