We generally sell used Scions for about $500 less than new Scions without modification. If they are modded, those are considered.
Everyone should remember when valuing their car that "Excellent" means PERFECT. That's not "perfect except for that one scratch" or "Perfect, but it needs a good cleaning" it means that this car could go directly on the showroom floor with ZERO investment. Just something to keep in mind for everybody.

I just paid $2.95 earlier today, and that's the cheapest around.

$3.25/gal here in PHX.
yeah, our cars hold their value exceptionally well. especially any of the RS series. but be careful when looking for used one. i bought my RS3 for 16,800 out the door new, while they were seling an '05 BOP with 14K miles on it for almost 2K more and it only had a few inexpensive fatory mods done to it. dealer markup anyone? 18 grand for a used box? thats like a 4K markup! i think not

I tried to trade in my box, 04, 24k miles, perfect condition, and the dealer wanted to give me 11.5k for it. I then told him where to put that as he was going to turn about put it on the lot for 16. Why should I practically give him the car???

My brother got 17,100 trade in on his 05 xB with approx 10,000 miles, the only thing it had extra was lowering springs and a CF spoiler, we took all the other stuff off. He bought it bone stock - manual.

I just searched AutoTrader (search found via edmunds.com) for used 2005 xBs within 25 miles of me. (This should cover most of the Portland area.)
11 were found. Summary stats:
Advertised Price Range for this search
$19,995 Highest price
$14,965 Lowest price
$16,905 Average price
That's very little, if any, depreciation. 3 of the 11 had unlisted prices. Now, I know nothing about what options/mods have been added to these cars, but none of the pictures looked like they'd been seriously tricked out.

I was told by my dealer that the used Scions are marked up because most people walk into a dealership thinking they can't afford a new one. He said right away you can't change their mind about it, they came into buy used & that is all they want so they pay for it even know they don't have to.
I am not a dealer so don't quote me on this, it was just what I was told.

As far as the guy who traded in his xB for over 17,000. My first thought was to call b.s. and then I thought about it and realized there are a lot of non-scion dealers that just have no idea that would actually do something like that.
For anyone who has an xB I reccomend that if you want something newer be it an 06 with the mp3 input and audio controls on the steering wheel or maybe want a 5 speed and you have an auto or vice versa, trade in. In most cases your payment will actually go down. One of the best parts of selling Scions is that there are a lot of customers I have sold multiple Scions to in the past two years.
