Default Cheap intakes on eBay

Anyone have one? Everytime I do search for XB all you get is 5000 cheap 40 dollar intakes. Are they any good at all?

Search is your friend. Lots of threads on this one.
I like my $40.00 short ram intake. A bit more power, a bit more noise.

I bought a CAI from k2motor.com they have an ebay store but if you buy it on thier site you won't be charged for shipping. The mass air sensor fit perfect. I bought an AEM bypass valve for it but there are off brand bypass valves on ebay. Next I'll get a AEM dry filter. Intake k2motor.com( pipe is a pipe)=$50 AEM bypass valve (some type is a must)=$50 AEM dry filter(completely optional)= $50 Total=$150

Yeah, you should get a bypass. I don't have one on my AEM and can see it will be a problem. I got an after market bumper kit and it exposes the filter. I did get some snow and ice on it, not much but enough to be a problem.

Careful buying a cheap intake. Some users report having problems with them. Aside from just making sure it fits, you need laminar air flow around the MAF sensor. Otherwise you'll get rough running and error codes. If you spend $15,000 on the car, don't cheap out on a critical component.

laminar air flow
Ok you got me on that one. Sounds like you are saying a cheap intake could cause turbulent air flow? I can see the MAF not knowing what is going on and triggering an error. Even worse the engine could run lean. I just don't see how that could happen from a tube though. Unless there is a leak somewhere.

if you want to cheap out, try the FX-1 intake from scionsport (www.ssuperstore.com) - It's very good for the money.

stew has a point, but it IS just piping.

As with any intake;
Keep your original parts sealed in a box in a safe place. Then if you have to go to the dealer, put it back on to avoid any hassle.

The key is, if you HAVE to let someone else work on your baby!

I got a Fujita SRI for $130 shipped on eBay. Lowest price Ive seen so far and def A+ quality (and that includes their customer service, since my intake was sent with the wrong size filter. they sent me the right one ASAP )

We must've bought from the same seller- cheap price and same filter problem.

I have a cheap one also and have had no issues at all. I have been watching the oil and it is just as clean as when I was stock. The one I got was identical to the YDR I have seen on here but came with a different filter and no sticker.

Leak, welds, bends, sensor position. It's not laminar flow in the intake tube, it's laminar flow across the wire in the MAF sensor. If the sensor wasn't lined up with the airflow correctly I'd think even the housing of the sensor could cause a problem.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the air flow around the MAF is the reason why some intakes work and some don't. I don't think everyone who's complained about rough idle and error codes with a cheap intake has installed it incorrectly.
