. Wash it with dish detergent to strip the wax and then run your fingers over it. That will let you know how dirty it really is.[/quote] Make sure to tell people that to only do this ONCES to prep the paint. I know that somepeople will read that and think, great dawn is cheaper than a bottle of megs nxt wash.

Okay... Here's the thing. I definitely don't have four to six hours to put into this; two jobs and life in between prohibits that. So, folks, give me the minimum here--if you only had two hours to invest, what would you do?

wash and maybe, maybe wax. it's one of those things you want to take time with.

i worked at a bodyshop for 5 years and still detail cars on the side. the clay bar is not meant to be used dry. you should use a liquid wax in a spray bottle or a quick detail srpay. for instance spray half the hood with the liquid wax and rud the clay over the area. the clay takes off over spray, dirt or anything else in the clear that normal washing does not get. you must put a good wax on it after because the clear is almost virgin after the clay. take it slow a panel at a time and kneed the clay after each panel.

I use the Mother's Calafornia Clay Bar once a year on both of my vehicles. It's a pain in the neck because it's so labor intensive, but it's definately worth it.

no wonder your ruining clay bars, get a quart or liter spray bottle, fill it with water and a few drops of car wash soap, use that for your clay bar lube, we use our glass cleaner at my work, and clay magic, we have to clay sections of every car that comes our way, thats a few thousand cars a month we clay, I've never clayed my box, and honestly, I've never hand waxed it, if I want to wax it I run it through a car wash, I don't like spending that kind of time cleaning the outside when in 5 minutes it'll be as dirty as it was when I cleaned it(I go a few weeks to a few months between washings) I'll spend more time on the interior then the exterior, maybe an hour - an hour and a half on the outside and 8 - 10 on the inside
