Default Cleaning a car!

Okay, so give me some secrets or something you guys use. Is mothers or meguiars better? What should I do to keep my car looking show room new. I'm asking these stupid questions because I've heard sometimes to wax and sometimes not to wax due to paint fading. Oh yeah, and for a car that has a lot of scratch marks (thanks to a*holes at college) what kind of scratch remover is best? Thanks alot guys!!
