Clutch Slippage...?
Anyone had their xA long enogh to need a clutch yet? Anyone with high mileage xA's in here...?
I have 15,000 on mine, (bought it in 11-2004) and do a lot of driving, mostly hard driving... Clutch doesn't seem to hold as well as it used to. Slips if I shift at high RPM.
I had an Echo that I had for 2 Years and put close to 55,000 miles on it. Clutch was still not showing the same signs of wear that my xA seems to be.
Does anyone know if the xA and Echo share the same clucth? Could there be a problem with my clutch hydraulics that there is less holding preassure or possibly not fully engaging/disengaging...?
Any help/similar experiences would be great!
Thanks!

people with the xB's (same motor and trans) have had slipping clutches.
some as early as 2-3000 miles...
yes the echo has the same clutch.
buy an aftermarket clutch with greater holding power.

Could this clutch slipping be from the peppier gear ratios used in the xA & xB trannies...? Quicker accelerating gear ratios = higher torque multiplication = more torque being handled by the clutch assembly... Are my thoughts making sense or might I just be a bit of a donkey?
Anyone have the TRD clutch? If so, any slippage with it?
Thanks again for the responses!

TRD clutches are a step above stock and should do you well...
I would like toyota to at least generate a technical bulletin reagrding this authorizing a stronger clutch for toyota Service reps to use as a replacement. now I know I can just change it out however according to SCCA rules if I do I endup in a class I really don't want to be in, with a technical bulletin (Just a peice of paper really) I can change clutches and stay in the right class.

you can talk that over with your service dept...
they have done it for other people on here

Here's a silly question, anyone notice better fuel mileage after the TRD clutch install? Or, since the clutch is TRD, that means thrash on the car even harder, thus less fuel mileage...?!?!

i used the clutch masters not the trd, but anything is better than stock.
i think because my clutch slipped at high speeds 75-80...that caused a loss of mpg...

I do belive this could be considerred driving hard...
On the flip side, I drove my Echo the same way for 2 Years and 55,000 miles and it never felt this way up to the day I traded it in...
I don't get it... The above mentioned gear ration theory sounds pretty reasonable, or I also think that the Scion line gets a lesser grade of material than Toyota in order to keep costs down...? Unless the O.E. Echo Clutch and the O.E. Scion Clutch are the same Part Number...
Could the hydraulics be a part of the problem? Not fully engaging/disengaging? Do the hydraulics have anything to do with the clamping preasure? (I don't think they do...)
I guess the saga continues...
ive got almost 19000 miles and im having the same slippage problems...i had an Accord before it and that clutch had almost 70k on it and a bolt on turbo for 40 of it and nothing and it was from the dealer...i have a feeling im going to need a new clutch before 25k...and that blows
i have 2,500 miles on mine, ive owned it for 2 months and i am showing signs of slippage, also if i mat the gas and i even rest my foot on the clutch pedal, it disengages... i called toyota and asked them if i could have a trd put in if i paid the difference and they said it was a possibility...I called scions corperate office and they logged it in there system and said if alot of people start calling then theres a good posibility they will do something about it...so if you want to complain feel free to cal 1-866-707-2466 and make a case...i did
try adding exhaust and headers
. my clutch slips all the time at 6k with the new power goodies i have. when i replace the clutch the lightened flywheel goes in to keep it company haha
