Default Common mistakes/regrets when ordering the xB?

So I'm about to order the xB. After going through all the options available, I'm starting to wonder if my excitment is getting the best of me. There are plenty of options I'm interested in, but will I end up regretting adding any of them?

What are some of the common mistakes/regrets people have POST-purchase?

Thought you wanted the alloy wheel upgrade, until you realized you want them changed in 3 months? LED Kit looked interesting at the time, but now you never use them?

This is the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

-cheers

I am happy with the only accessory I bought, the upgrade to the stereo for my 2006 xB. I'm really glad I spent the extra $260 to get the full iPod connectivity. I am also VERY glad I didn't waste a penny on the Scion floormats, bought a set of Husky heavy duty rubber floor mats and saved about $25. Got way better mats for less. Glad I didn't waste money on any "eye candy" for the xB. I do like the alloy wheels, but....I'm going to go aftermarket and get something that looks just as good, if not better, again, for less $$.

getting accessories through the dealer is much more expensive than online. what options are you considering?
i would recommend taking a look at prices on mcgeorgeparts.com or trdsparks.com to get an understanding of how much more you will be paying at the dealership. however, the installs are warrantied and costs are financed.

from personal experience, i knew nothing about cars when i bought my xB. i opted for the intake/exhaust and cruise from the dealership. there are better/cheaper options in the aftermarket but i am happy with them.

from what i hear, most regret going with the scion security option.

Get it stock and you can always add things later from the dealer or get it online if you want it.

Thanks for the links. This is what I'm considering:

Wheel Locks: Wheel Locks (WL) $59.00
Interior: Carpeted Floor Mats/Cargo Mat (CF) $120.00
Interior: Door Sill Enhancements (G0) $139.00
Interior: Cargo Net (GN) $49.00
Sport Pedal Covers by OBX Racing Sports: Silver (32) $79.00
Exterior: Rear Bumper Applique (EF) $58.00
Exterior: Fog Lights (LJ) $350.00
LED Illumination: Blue (44) $275.00
Performance: *TRD Lowering Springs $189.00
Interior: Cargo Liner (3X) $93.00
Performance: *TRD Quick Shifter $157.00
Performance: *TRD Assembly Clutch $328.00
Performance: *TRD Shocks/Struts Kit $329.00
Exterior: Rear Taillights by TYC (FZ) $275.00
Exterior: *Exhaust Tip (Stainless Steel by Valor Manufacturing) (E5) $64.00
Wheels: EM-7 Spoke Alloy Wheels $665.00
Exterior: *Yakima Rack $276.00
Interior: Center Armrest $125.00

Accessories Total $3,630.00

I'm not sure on a few of those. I like the idea of the roof rack for winter trips to the mountains, but the board they show in the photo is upside down - so unless they expect people to remove their bindings, I sure hope there is no issue with mounting it rightside up (as in I hope it doesn't fly away due to the lip).

The performance add ons are the most expensive, but I want a smoother ride so I added the lowering springs and struts/shocks. I'm pretty solid on the fog lights and tail lights, but I'm questioning the LED kit. I went for the alloy package because they look decent and will work fine for my summer set, I'll get some plain black steelies for the winter.

Getting the options aftermarket is the least expensive, dependent upon your skills. If you can, try to check the installation instructions for the option and see if you are comfortable with doing the work. If you feel uncomfortable or feel that you'd rather let someone take the financial risk of a mistake then by all means get the stuff from the dealership! Remember, even if you have an "expert" friend to help/do the work, they are not likely to pay for any problems, theirs or yours! Use a business for stuff like rims, complex electronics, etc... If the business is willing to install your parts then eBay and the like can be your friend. The extra cash is nice for other mods or paying for the recent outrageous gas and insurance price increases. BTW with all the nice $$$ mods you like, a really good alarm/anti-theft system should be high on your agenda. It won't keep the really experienced crooks from stealing your ride but it should take care of the majority of amateurs around.

I got the interior LEDs and use them all the time. I know I overpaid, but they're worth it.

The only other options I would get through the dealer would be the intake (if it's offered any more) and the iPod HU.

I would, however, go with the following parts from Scion:

Door sill enhancements
Armrest
Floormats

I regret the stupid Bazooka and the security system. I kind of regret the alloys, but they did serve me well for a year.

Might I ask what is wrong with the Scion security option? That is about the only option I am considering.

It's completely overpriced for what it is.

You do not get a better key fob.
It does not honk when you arm it.
It has no shock sensor, only a glass break sensor (microphone)
It does honk when you unlock it by pulling up on the lock while its armed.

Basically, you could do whatever you want to the car, and as long as you don't unlock it or break a window, the alarm does not set off. This means someone could tow the car or steal the wheels without the alarm going off.

For about the same cost, you could get a much, much better paging system with remote start installed.

I think most of the mods, you can get cheaper on the internet and install yourself. Something like the foglights even seems like an easy install.

dont waste your money at the dealership. a lot of those parts they sell are crap anyways. do you really need OBX pedals? I bought mine bone stock. not one upgrade to it. You can find parts WAY cheaper online especially on this forum. Just search around.

^^^ I did the moon roof through the dealer for the warranty.

Everything else you should do yourself!

The moon/sun roof and leather aren't dealer options that I'm aware of. The idea of a moon or sun roof is lovely. How much did it cost you to have the dealer put that moon roof on? - And is it something that any Scion dealer can do?

I added the rear spoiler and fog lights from the dealer and had them install them.

we all know you can get them cheaper on line. BUT does the website that you can buy them from offer a 3 year warranty on the parts and labor.... NO!

I put my on my TYC lights and the TRD shortshifter myself.

The TYC lights were $201 of Mcgeorgeparts.com
I got the TRD SS for $109 from a toyota dealership (not a scion)

I think the factory sub and the interior pedal/shiftknobs/lights is a complete waste of money.....

Who wants lighted cup holders???
