Default Dash Rattle (behind steering wheel) ____ing me off!

I notice this steady rattle in the dash on certain roads. It sounds like right behind the steering wheel where most gauge clusters are located. When the radio is off it's annoying as hell. Anyone else with this problem? Thanks!

What am I supposed to search for? I did a search under "dash rattle" in the xB forums and went through 3 pages of not related threads

I had a rattle that happened as the engine was passing 3K-4K RPM. It was the cover of the speedo, stuck some padded stickies back there, fixed me right up. Maybe that's it.

Take the car back to the dealership and have them fix it.

I had the same rattle, they had to take the dash apart and lined pretty much the whole thing with felt. It took them about 4 hours to fo the job, but now the car is rattle free.

I thought about doing it myself, but then remembered that this car has a warranty for things like this. Plus if I crack something then I have to pay, if they break it, they pay. But othing cracked, so it was a non-issue.

Just take it back to them and have it fix. Not a big deal.

There's another thread on this topic.... Here's a copy of what I posted there, easy fix!

ULTIMATE FIX for the speedo rattle. After I installed the AC Indiglo gauge overlay I permanently fixed the rattle by surrounding the entire unit with a strip of electical tape(clear cover off). THEN snap on the clear cover and the problem's solved, period. The first attempt at adding window insultation on top of the clear cover and under the black casing worked until the insulation compressed in the summer heat.

I just got my car today and noticed the noise on my drive home....I was like WTF, its already making weird noises with under 50miles on it! I could tell the noise was coming from the spedometer. When I just tapped on the front glass peice it stopped.

Is it somthing I should talk to the dealer about or just try and fit it myself? How can a brand new car already have somthing wrong with the spedometer?

hmmmm

I've seen another xB that had the speedo rattle. He wedged a piece of paper, at the time, in there to keep it from moving. We were at a car show so he didn't get to drive test it. I haven't seen him to see if it helped.

I worked on mine this past weekend and started another post for those with rattles in that general vicinity. If you have rattles in the dash, it is definately something you want to check out. Mine's like driving a completely different car since. Good luck!

Just had my dealer take care of the rattles (and tiny marimba band, I think) in and around my dash. They fixed rattles at speedo head, both speaker grills, and one other down lower somewhere...

Very quiet now.

Mine was doing that till I found that thing clipped on the side of the airbox under the hood had vibrated off. I reclipped it on and the rattle stopped.
