Default Dealer Wrecked My Car...

Well, sort of.

I bought my xB in December and took it in for maintenance today during my split at work. When I came back to pick it up from getting lunch I was pulled aside by a guy in plain clothes. No shop uniform or nothing and thought "Ok, this might not be good".

He told me that they had a mishap with my car while it was being serviced. Apparently the service guy was pulling it around into the service area and as he exited an intersection on the back lot. A Sales guy in his own vehicle wasn't paying attention and took a bite out of my car. I just bought wheels and tires for it about 2 weeks ago and the right rear now has to be replaced. The ground skirt and bumper are scuffed up some and a little of the quarter panel. I guess it could have been worse. But it's still a pain in the ___.

They gave me a rental and sent my car to one of the best body shops in the area. And they're ordering me a new wheel also. At this point I have no idea when I'm going to get it back. And I have no pictures to show you guys. Sorry.

yeah, i was having new tires put on my tc down in florida, when the good year guy said that one of my wheel locks was cracked, and my key wouldn't fit over it. so whoever last rotated my tires over torqueed my wheel lock and that would be my dealership. i took it to the dealership and went ape ____ and got a new set of wheel locks, and my tires mounted and balenced for free.

I took everything pretty calmly. I'm starting to think I should have taken a picture of it.

Maybe I can do that tomorrow. I just remembered I do have a picture of that side of the care before taking it in. So there should be no problem proving there was no damage before.

I'm going to ask that they cover the cost of my maintenance.

.... it sucks that they damaged your car.. but at least they actually told you.. i can almost guarantee 90% of dealers would do something like that and say nothing.. and once you leave they will just say it happend after you left.. .. .. since u ahve a rental.. drive it like you stole it!

Stuff happens. At least it won't be on your insurance. I know it's not fun, but maybe you can also get a deal on some items?

So did they contact the police, or at least report the accident. You could always notify the local police department and file your side of the "report". I'm guessing this was on private property, but it was the sales guys vehicle that was also involved. Did the sales guy notify his insurance?

Who's to say he'll not file against your insurance company. I'd contact your insurance company for advice, or even the police department in the jurisdiction of the dealership.

It's great they are taking responsibility, but I would think they are also legally required to report the accident. If that wasn't done, I would INSIST they do that, just to protect yourself and your insurance... That way you also have a record, in case weeks after the repair something falls off the back of you car...

yeah, if my dealership messed up my car like that. i'd be like, okay, i'd like a police report of the incident, your insurance information. a rental car, and tow my tc over to MY PREFERRED BODY SHOP.

do you know exactely who is going to repair your box? they could have sent it to some high school body shop for all you know and told you "yeah, the best body shop in the area...of educating future collision repair technicians!"

The police shouldn't care if it was on private property and the dealer admits guilt. I think you can file a police report for anything, but it shouldn't matter unless the dealer doesn't do the repair. Your insurance also won't care as long as they don't have to pay to fix the car. You can report it to them just in case the dealer doesn't fix it right. More for creating the paper trail in case you need to do something about it later.

The worst damage I had from a dealer (not Toyota) was a small scratch on my car while replacing a window. They fixed it with touch up paint and never told me it happened. They actually did a good job but still noticeable. Not any worse than the swirls their stupid "free car wash with service" would put in the paint!

After my dealership experiences, I decided to do my own maintenance and forfeit the free oil changes. I don't want my xB to see the inside of the service department until it needs a major repair...

I'll never let the dealer touch my car either, short of warranty work they will never ever do any work on it.

They can keep their free "dino oil" oil change, I can do it myself for $30 with synthetic and a good filter.

I'd contact your insurance company and let them know what happened just in case you do need to make a claim, who knows how good of a job they will do and if they will fix it again if it is a bad repair.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to look more into all of that tomorrow and see what happens. I know the name of the place they sent it too and it is the best in the area. So I feel ok there. But I am worried about something being missed in the repair.

What's the name of the place that is doing the repairs? just curious because I'm in California too and my xB just got rear ended and the place my dealer farms out to is Prestige II Auto Reconditioning up in Ramona. I may or may not go with them, still haven't decided.
