Does it really matter if I use an ebay cold air intake or a name brand version. Am I just wasting money? I've also read the other links about the desnorkling and I'm still concerned of accidental damage somehow.

well, if your gonna do an ebay intake, make sure you get a k&n filter, the ones that come with those kits are crap. im currently running the desnorkeled setup with a kandn drop in filter, im not sure if there are any problems associated with doing this, ive never heard of any

ebay ones that aren't namebrand you really can't trust to be of decent quality your taking a chance of sucking water or worse metal from the manufacturing into the engine

You get what you pay for. the name brands have proven dyno research and testing, along with customer support. These knock-offs on ebay were probably made soley on looks alone. just my .02 cents though.

i read a post about this guy got just a no name ebay intake and his xB would rin choppy, backfire and die, they finally decided that the MAF plate was warped so it was getting a false reading, he ended up tossing that one and getting a name brand and the problem stopped, its up to you, saving money is nice, but you could be taking a chance with it...
