Default eBay: $14.99 for a CF engine cover?

What a TOOL!! I would have put this in the classifieds section, but I find it to be way too funny to be serious!

Anyway, check out this $14.99 CF engine cover for an xB...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3ASS%3AUS%3A1

...but before you go and get all click-happy, make sure to also check out the shipping fees!

HI, AK, GU, VI SHIPPING WILL BE $170

Canada and Puerto Rico SHIPPING WILL BE $150

You could still call it cheap, but I call it shady and just plain retarded. Not to mention, what kind of quality or service could you possibly expect from such a weasle?

ebay doesnt hold shipping expenses against them. yet the sale price they get fees taken out of. it's a wrong way but an easy way to do ebay business.

You could report him and have his account canceled.

It is illegal to do that on eBay.

I would contact the seller and say that you're interested in the price and calculate your own shipping. Then show eBay and see if you can get it for that price.

Also, if you buy it and send it back, you only get the purchase price returned and not the shipping.

Wow, I think everyone is confused.

I will give you guys an example first... If I sell you an item for $15, I can either:
a) charge you $14 for the item and $1 shipping
or
b) charge you $1 for the item and $14 shipping.

I don't think that matters - I see people do that ALL THE TIME on ebay to OFFSET the cost. OBVIOUSLY the shipping on my fake $1 item is not $14, but it offsets the cost.

Plus, a GOOD seller will not deprive you of the "$14 shipping refund" assuming you're exchanging the merchandise...

You guys know what I mean or am I barking up the wrong tree?

ive sold on ebay a few different times, and i perfectly understand why they do it.

but also, if someone were new to ebay, and completely overlooked the shipping cost, they would wonder why theyre total was 90 bucks more than they thought.

their fault? yes, but eh.. i prefer to be upfront with my sales. again, let the buyer beware

^^^ I find it difficult to believe that there are still people out there who don't calculate the shipping into their total cost for an item...

If i find a laptop for $200 less than what it is in stores, I wouldn't in hell just click the buy button. I'd see how much shipping was, add that to the price the seller is selling the laptop for THEN compare it to what it is at a computer store/best buy/compusa, etc.

I don't think it's misleading at all. if people read the entire auction, like they should, rather than just clicking the buy button, they would not have any issues...

buyer is at fault. it's only misleading if the $x shipping is in fine print or something crazy/misleading like that.

if i put $1 FOR MY ITEM AND $14 SHIPPING in bold, clearly, the seller is trustworthy. <- imo

you do realize that not everyone on the internet has been using it for years, right?

or ebay, for that matter.

and what about compulsive people? they obviously dont look before they leap. doubt they would look at the shipping before jumping at that totally awesome deal, right?

I can almost guarantee that the only reason he's doing it is to get out of eBay's fees, and I bet that would certainly get you shut down. I would agree with the return policy that easyoboe mentioned, except that in the long-**** fine print, he mentions that there are no refunds or returns for any reason.

Let's look at the facts, and I will assume that your are incredibly lucky and they accept the item back for a refund.
It plainly states that shipping is not refundable and there is a 25% re-stocking fee. So, if you send it back it will have cost you;
Initial cost......................................................$ 14.99
Shipping.......................................................... 85.00
Return shipping, estimated............................ 10.00

Total cost....................................................... $109.99

You will get back the $14.99 times 75% or $ 11.24

fees paid to ebay? depending on listing options, I'd say ~$1.

The TOTAL price is the ONLY thing I look at. I too mark up my shipping but start my auctions at $0.01. No one is forcing anyone to bid. If you do not like the price, dont bid. Very simple and a smart way to do business.

Why give any more money to ebay when you dont have to?

no no no., that's for a listing fee. but add to that the total value assessment or whatever they call it. it's a percentage of the item's sold price..

I see what seems to be some niave comments here. This outfit selling on ebay has a 95.1 approval rating. Anything under 98.00 is not good. They have far too many neutral and negative feedbacks.

i never understood how everyone holds ebay sellers to such a high level of standards. "anything under 98.00% positive feedback is not good? man imagine if everyone was judged liek that. every small and mid size business would go bankrupt , everyone would lose their job or make no profit to make sure any error ever was fixed on their own dime...

wake up people. accidents happen!!!!

And dont forget leaving neg. feedback for revenge.

Ebay, like everything from guns to cars, is not inherintly evil. It is simply a tool. The good/evil aspects reflect the users intentions.

RANT WARNING: we need less rules and regulations in the name of 'consumer protection' and more rules and regulations regarding intelligence.
