Just bought my first scion. Its an 05 xB. I'm a certified car techie and currently manage 13 auto repair facilities, so I hope I can be of great technical help here.

... but when it comes to Scions, I know very little. I'll be looking for help on little mods here and there. Its primarily my wife's car. This is her first mod-worthy car so she's excited to get greasy with me on this project.

Is there anything quick and easy that are the "standard" fixes on these? Like, for instance; if this were a caprice/impala forum, we would all suggest flushing the dexcool and modifying the proportioning valve as the cheap/easy improvements. Is there anything about the xBs that is something I should do up front?

how do you go about modifying a proportioning valve? as any type of improvement on an Impala?

most would replace with an adjustable proportioning valve to set the rear to front brake bias..not to improve performance or looks..odd

Its a very common B-body mod. The Caprice had disc/drum. The Impala had disc/disc but used the same m/c and prop valve as the caprice. The result was about a 97/3 brake torque bias in the impala. The fix is to pull the valve apart and remove one of the two springs on the shaft which results in a nearly perfect 70/30 torque bias. The only cost involved is $5 worth of brake fluid

Welcome. Nice wheels. Those low profile tires expand the size of the wheel gap. Some 2 inch lowering springs will fix that.

Be sure to check the tray behind the glove box for a CABIN AIR FILTER, because Scion does not provide one, and most owners don't know they need one. This will prevent all that dust on your dash. Sometimes called a pollen filter, it gets brown after 15-20,000 miles.

See TECH thread called 'Fabricate your own CABIN AIR FILTER' and see photos of how to pop off the glove box to access tray.

Filter is $22 from dealer, $12-15 at any parts store. Same filter as RAV4 2005. Make your own for a few dollars.

Take the slack out of the accelerator cable, they come with about 1/2inch (deflection) stock it will make starting up a freeway ramp easier.

x2 on the urethane sway bushings, a marked improvement over the stock bushings. Cheap and quick mod.
