Default A few Questions for xB owners...

1) Anyone get the extended warranty through Scion? I'm considering it as I plan on keeping this car until is falls apart. Let me know your thoughts.

2) 2006 xB radio with ipod connection. Any 2005 owners convert out to this? Is it worth it? Would love to hook my iPod up to this.

3) Anyone go from stock 15" to 18"? Did it effect your performance? Gas mileage?

Thanks for the help!

I have the same problem you have - I got the same car and the same stupid mp3 player.

Something I'm sure you've heard - I bought an iTrip at Staples for $40. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and broadcasts my music over an unused radio station.

The problem, of course, is FINDING an unused radio station in the city of Chicago. Based on your username, I imagine you're having an equivalent problem.

So now there's two of us who want to know. I really wanna plug that sucker in!

1) Extended warrantees are only fully utilize dollars wise by less than 5% of the purchasers...they are really just Extended Profit for the dealer.

2) Do not do ipod sorry. LOL mine is a 2006 and i removed the ipod stuff while changing headunits:0

3) 18 inch ride a good bit firmer than 15's for sure. I felt the 215/35/18 recommended stock 18 was a bit too firm . I test drove an xB with 17" as well it was still firmer than the 15" but not harsh like the dealer equipped 18" rim setup. I really wanted at least a 17 and found an 18" rim I really liked...I also saw a recommended oversize tire for 18" on Scion's site 215/40/18. I got this size on 42MM offset 18" rims. It rubs ever so slightly at full left or right turn (inner front of the tires and only when at the mechanical limit of the steering... not a big problem). These slightly larger tires softened the ride considerably being closer in ride to the factory option 17" setup than the factory option 18" setup...but still a touch firmer than the 17's. if I had my druthers they would make the wheel I got in a 17 and that is what I would have purchased but they dont

BTW for the biggest improvement in ride on the xB, In my opinion, change the springs and or shocks. Goldline 2" drop progressive springs ride like a Caddilac.... I have also heard people really like the Monroe sensatrac shocks. These things seem to eliminate or minimize the slight choppiness of the xB's ride.

1. Don't bother with the Extended Warranty. 9 times out of 10, the warranty company will find a way to BS out of warranting any issues, thereby making you pay for the service anyhow. Trust me, it has happened to me personally.
2. Don't waste money on the iPod-equipped stock stereo. If you want the iPod option, buy an aftermarket radio with iPod capability. You get more bang for your buck from aftermarket HUs anyway.
3. 18's all depend on how and where you drive. If you commonly drive on older, beat up, nasty, pothole-infested roads, then by all means, do NOT get 18's! If you are not the type that regularly pays attention to the road and avoids potholes and other road debris, then do not get 18's.
The larger wheels do change the ride and handling of the xB dramatically. The ride is noticeably more rough, there is an increase in road noise from the lower profile tire, and you could suffer a small loss of acceleration and a similarly small decrease in gas mileage due to an increase in wheel weight. The appearance and immediate steering response, IMHO, is much more appealing and well worth the trade-off.

Default response to 2 of the 3

I bought an extended warranty, to 120,000 miles. I drive almost 30k per year. I figure it cost an extra 1.55 cents per mile for the warranty ($1,300 +/- for 84,000 added to the 36,000 base warranty). Given that, at one year and 26,800 miles, I'm ready for my second windsheild replacement under warranty (stress cracking), I think I might get most of my warranty money back.

Don't know about the iPod.

I have 18's, with no clearance problems. A slightly rougher ride, and of course, watch out for potholes!

I will just say I got the warranty and purposely keep a very good relationship w/ my service advisor at the dealership. I've never had any trouble w/ the warranty work (course its still OEM) but never intend on it.

The dealership has either checked the vehicle within a 100 miles of the modification(s) or have installed them themselves. I keep all receipts for my records.
