Default First car buyer

Hi, just like to say hello, this is my first post on the board. Been in hiding and reading the message board since probably October. One hell of a board with lots of info, it's helped me a lot with my journey of buying my first car. I'm finally ready to buy one and it'll most likely be an xA. But I am feuding between an xA and a Honda Civic LX Coupe(all depending on the insurance and deal). But if i had it my way, i'd be getting a tC or Mazda3, the insurance is way too steep and heavy on the wallet. Anyways, i've seen topics before about what options people should be getting when buying a scion and most have said just buy it stock. But my question is, what if you have no experience on modding a car or installing anything what-so-ever. Me for instance, i wouldn't know what to do in the simplest of things to install. I plan on getting either an Indigo Ink Pearl or Phantom Grey Pearl xA w/ moonroof and fog lights in June. Now, for someone who doesn't know how to install a damn thing on a car. Is it wise to get the xA with fog lights? or just buy them aftermarket and hope for the best? Also, what is your list of things to put on/in your car(in order of importance)? Sorry for the lengthy post. I've had this bottled up since October, what do ya expect.

If you want fog lights, have them installed by the dealer. They are too expensive but there are not aftermarket fog lights that just bolt in.

I would add 17" wheels with 215/45 tires first then some Eibach springs. Drive it like that for a while before you decide what to do next.

The performance aftermarket for the Scion engine flat sucks, parts are too expensive for what you get and HP gains are minimal.

i made the choice of going with an xa. the car is fun to drive even without a whole list of mods.

don't get the fog lights with it. if yu decide that yu want fog lights later, go back to the dealer for them. but, im saying this cuz yu'll prolly be content without them once yu have the car, so why waste money?

Personally...i regret not getting foglights in my xA. It bugs me everytime i look at those little plastic covers where the foglights should be. i plan to buy them from an aftermarket source. I'm not sure how i'm going to get them installed. It will depend on how difficult it is.

For me the thing that made the biggest difference in my car was putting on 17" wheels and lowering it.

A lot of the guys in the local Scion clubs do their own mods. You could go to some meets, get acquainted with the guys who do their own stuff, then offer to pay them to put your mods on. Or find a local mechanic who won't charge you an arm and a leg.
