Noob ?: Anyone have any reccomendations on fog lights for the xA Release 1.0? I would like to use them on my very stock xA (the holes are in the grill already), but am looking for opinions/examples from people that have them already. Thanks!

P.S. Are their any headlight/taillight kits (HID or similar) for the xA?

 

i have Hella Optilux 2500's.. a bit of a squeeze, but they're the best damn driving lights i've ever used.

I got the factory kit from Spark's Scion (ask for Ken) for $218. The kit comes with the wire harness, relay and switch. It main harness is already there so it just plugs in.

However, I want my fogs to be independent of the headlights so I'm looking to get them wired differently.

Define, "A bit of a sqeeze". Did you have to cut or modify the holes at all (besides the back part)? How hard were they to install? Got pics?

 

if you want to wire the fogs independantly, just tap into the hot supply line for the harness and power it off a different source.

oh, as far as "bit of a squeeze" you do have to trim some of the rubber inside the bumper area. not visible from the outside. the lights are maybe 1/8" too large to fit the holes, but i built aluminum "brackets" to hold them into place very securely.
i only have pictures of them installed.

 

Thanks for the help everyone! I would like the foglights to be independant of the main's as well...any specifics/sites/guides you have on tapping the power for this? The cutting and mounting part is not the problem, but as for electrical, that's a whole other ballgame. Thanks!

find a good + source under the dash. i used a test light and found a wire that was hot with the ignition switch in the ON position, but not hot when ign = off.

then use that as your source. i can't really explain it any easier.. there are some blanks in the fuse panel that have this power source.

 

I just ordered those lights after seeing yours. I found them for $49.95 from Autobarn.com

They should be here by Friday.

 

I'm sure I could come up with a way to secure those into place, but aiming them and keeping them aimed will be another issue. How did you do that?

 

OK, I just took a look at the wires. Which one is the "hot" wire that I should move the the new power source? There are 4 wires that go into the switch.

Is there a switch setting to turn on the "Angel Eye" part, then the main bulb separately?

Or does the Angel Eye turn on with the headlights - like a BMW's?

it's a 3 way rocker.. one for angel eye, one for the actual bulb.

Epitrochoid you may have to do some testing of your own.. remember, it's only 2 wires to power the fogs, a + and a ground. honestly, all that other wiring is a waste, unless you want to hook into the stock harness.

 

I used the stock wire harness. There are 5 wires going into the relay. I guess I'll just have to figure out which one is the hot wire and move it.

 

I dunno which one is which. . . you could always use a multimeter

 

I guess it's time I buy one, huh.

 

hehehehe. . . they do come in handy if you work on your car's electronics often. You could try asking the Toyota Parts dept?
