Is this "modification" something like reprogramming the ECU? If so, mine is fine. I wouldn't chance messing it up.

Yes, it's taking a while to get some clarification. I agree about you leaving yours alone. This thread is more for members who are not satisfied with their MPG, and, have been looking at all possibilities.

Update: I installed roof rack rails, (I keep the crossbars in the carport except when needed), removed the spare tire and jack*, inflated the tires to 34 LBs, added a bottle of fuel inj cleaner to my second tank of gas, and I have been pretty good at not exceeding 60 MPH. For my second tank I got 31 MPG. For the third tank I got 33.6 MPG so I'm a happy camper.

I believe I'll do even better once I get my Rostra CC w/stalk working.

* My insurance provides road service and I have a cell phone so there's no need to lug around an extra 30 LBs for 10 years.

Thanks all,

Kerry

Make that 31.68 lbs. I eighty-sixed that too.

Also, (depending on convenience) 11.9 gallons of gas weigh 73.18 lbs. So since I go through gas slowly I only put 3 gallons in at a time. That, plus the 2 gallons left in tank = 30.75 lbs. So there's an additional 42.43 lbs saved from not lugging extra fuel around, if you don't need too.

H'm my bathroom scales must be off. The small spare tire weighed 24 lbs and I assumed the jack and handle was about 5 lbs.

I compromise on the fuel weight and fill up each time but I do sip it down to the last gal.

That's great. Must have been a tail wind. The speed limit in Hawaii is 55 + 5 mph for grace so most everyone here goes 60.

i added an intake and exhaust and i still get 35 mpg. And i usually do 60-65 over here. But when i first bought my car, i was only getting about 26 mpg. It just needs to get broken in. I have 9k miles now.

I just got my 'o6 recently. It had 11k miles on it.
In my first thousand miles I've been getting right at 30 mpg in mostly city driving.
I drove to Naples from Orlando and back this weekend.
At around 80 mph most of the way (I-4 and I-75) with cruise control set and with the a/c going, I got a little less than 33 mpg on the way there and a little under 34 mpg on the way back.
It's stock. Just an FYI.

Thanks motogeezer,

I assume that you don't have an xB, unless you installed a CC.

I've installed my Rostra CC on my '06 xB but can't get it to work yet, I've completed dbl checking the install instructions and found no errors so I'm about to start the volt meter troubleshooting process. The green LED on the lever shows that it's turned on (getting power) but neither of the other two buttons do anything. Rostra's instructions and photos are terrible. They say to connect a brown to a red (4 pin molex) but there is only an orange and a red with w/gray stripe. I go catatonic with such things. Even with the 4 user's additions to the instructions it's been a confusing ordeal.

very strange you are getting such poor results. my 06 xb when i actually paid attention and kept my car at 60 mph was averaging about 35-36 mpg. I did remove the snorkel, which seemed to help a little.

I read the instructions a few times, printed out the SL users additions, and tried a little walk-through of the installation. It looked too hard, physically, for my stiff old 6'-2" looking upward through tri-focals under the dash. I did similar work installing my fog lights, but decided to take my Rostra to a pro, who installed it in 90 minutes for $150 while I waited.

Update: It's working!!!

I think I would have had it installed by Toyota, not only because of the poor instructions, pictures, and my age, eyes etc, but also because I cringe at the thought of having some electrical problem and Toyota saying that it has to do with me messing around under the dash.

In any case, I'm a happy camper.

FWIW: This Rostrar (lever) CC is not as responsive (fast acting and as accurate) as my OEM CC in my '97 Saturn SC1. For example: I used to be able to increase my speed by one mile at a time with one press on the ACC. Now I press and I'm not sure if it's taking effect. Also I'll set it at say 45 MPH and within a mile or so it has crept down to 41 MPH. All else works fine, averaging 32 MPG (7500 miles).

now you need to calibrate . for the xb you need to pull off the cover on the strut on the drivers side, you need the move the #23 micro switch to the up position and leave the rest alone.. this will make it more sensitive and accurate. per Jeff. bB2NER.. He has done this on his xb and is very happy.

I skimmed over that post but assumed it was only for RF installations.

Mine has a sticker that says "death to all who remove, warranty void ... etc." ignore it?

Thanks,

Kerry

Re: "Mine has been done for 3 years and still works great.!!" That's great news.

I installed the Rostra (w/lever) CC so I'm doubting if Toyota would want to open the cover to flip a switch.

I'd like to hear from someone just how strict Rostrar is about the sealed void warranty warning.

Thanks,

Kerry

Still don't get the whole voided warranty thing just for calibrating the cruise for the xB. The sticker meant nothing to me cause the cruise was about useless till I made the adjustment. What good is a warranty on something that doesn't work right???

Followup:

I agree, but I'd feel better if I knew Rostra wouldn't disallow a warranty repair because I opened their servo box.
I called the guy who sold it to me and he gave me permission to open it.
