Default Future of the xB and Colors

I have heard rumors, after just purchasing the xB CamoGreen that the xB is being talked about discontinueing and that the color Camo is now officially not to be sold starting end of this month (November). Any truth to these rumors-----it has probably been covered in the past but I have missed it. PJRACER

Well, with October being the highest selling month I kinda doubt it. But who's your source? And have you thought about emailing Scion directly?

The camo is still under production, production is only being reduced. The new color being introduced will be the shadow mica then maybe the camo gets discontinued.

Camo is being discontinued. Exactly when is a question, but most ereports indicate the end of the year.

The future of the current xB design is a subject for speculation, since no announcements have been made. Until Toyota says something, they can change their plans at will.

But the Echo - the platform upon which the xA and xB are based - is being phased out, replaced by the Yaris. There's no question of that. And a concept design for what can only be a bB (the Japanese original of the xB) replacement was shown at the auto show in Tokyo recently.

Toyota could certainly keep making these engines, transmissions, chassis, etc. just for the xA and xB, but IMO that wouldn't be consistent with the idea of building inexpensive target-marketed variants on designs that are produced in high volume all over the world, which is the current Scion business model.

I wouldn't say it's "common knowledge," because we simply don't know what Toyota has in mind yet. It's very likely this is the last year for the *current design* of the xB. But that's not the same as saying "discontinued."

If Toyota brings something based on the Yaris platform (all new mechanicals), with new sheet metal, and calls it the "2007 xB," then was the xB discontinued?

Has the Corolla ever been discontinued? No. Does the current Corolla have anything in common with earlier versions besides the name and its position in Toyota's product lineup? No.

What I've been trying to find out is whether there are any other cars in Toyota's 2007 worldwide lineup that will still use the Echo engine and drivetrain. If not, why would Toyota continue making them just for a few hundred thousand Scions?

Considering the cost of development for a new vehicle and the fact that it may be years from inception to production just coming up with a "new" design is always a risk for an auto manufacturer. Toyota rolled the dice on the whole Scion concept and have found a winner. I'm hard pressed to say that it, the xB, would be discontinued since it has proven itself to be considerably more versatile that what their marketing people may have originally thought. If anything I imagine a new body style with, unfortunatly, a more rounded style and /or maybe up the engine to a 1.8 or so to boost performance. There is a lot that they can do with the present design that has been accomplished with individuals customizing the basic setup. Most of the mods would never make it into production but many very well could provide variations on an already successful design. For instance a pickup and/or a panel van variation for the "utility" crowd could be a big seller. Gas milage is one of the big plusses for this car so I doubt you will see a 2+ liter engine in place if the 1.5 liter. Instead I see the potential for a hybrid setup. While the Japanese can design and produce a new car in less time than GM or Ford they still are not going to arbritrarily change gears in the middle of a successful run. My guess says that the 5 year production run of the bB in Japen will make a change soon and that they will continue what works here for another couple of years until they get a new design settled into production. But I don't see any dramatic changes in the concept.

That's about 4 cents worth.

Whith the way sales and demand have been going, I seriously doubt they're gonna phase it out any time soon. The xA would be a more likely target IMO. Either way....I don't care. I got my camo xB already. :D

I would like a genuine source that is trustworthy, rather than telling everyone I know that I read it somewhere on the internet. Do your research before posting up such claims, and lose the condescending attitude next time maybe huh?

There are two o's in common.

when i first signed up to be a SL member back
last year, there was a thread about a rumor
that the xB may be discontinued.

true or not true... i hope it'll be true.
don't want it to be played out (as for it already is)
like a Civic/PT Cruiser and such.
(i bet the peeps who where the first ones
to have an xB have been saying this).

look at the tC already.

Popularity of a car equals a larger aftermarket, and lower prices. Yes it would suck to have everyone own one, but it would also be a real pain to have to pay considerable amounts of money for a part because no one makes it.

One "good" thing that has happened in the last 10-15 years is that the internals of a lot of cars are shared across a wide spectrum of a manufacturers product line. This makes the parts more readily available and theoretically cheaper. (In the case of Honda parts it almost seems to be the reverse). Figure the engine and transmission for the xB is shared by at least the Echo and the xA here in the US and probably a dozen other models that are not imported to the US. Ford has used the basic 302 block for something like forty years, parts are readily available and cheap. A completely unique vehicle is rare and expensive, Ferrari is a notable example as is Bently, Porsche, etc. I have no fears that the xB is going to lack for parts for many years to come.

Camo and Black Cherry go away in December and are replaced by Shadow Mica (Slightly darker) and Salsa Red.

As far as I know the xB will continue as-is through the 2007 model year.

After that.... I dunno.

Scion wanted to sell 120-125,000 units this year and will probably get close to 140,000. Thats ALL THREE MODELS combined. Honda will sell that many Civics this year so it's not Scion owners that should be worried about seeing too many on the street.

The next xB might be the new bB. Or it could be the t2B. But the name and style should change after next year and that's a good thing. Who wants to be driving "the old xB" anyway?
