Gas milage revisited
Well i decided to try something different because of the poor mpg, so i started using premium 91 octane gas. Hello world of difference. Last 2 tanks the light didn't even come on till 295-300 (it died at that on regular). I'm glad cause i was sarting to get mad. SO i figure 40 more miles before the light comes on, $2 more for premium so it comes out for the better.
I drive a 60 mi daily commute and get an average 33.5 to 34 mph. I consider that excellent. One thing, the moment you start pushing the pedal for acceleration the gas vanishes. Just some moderate fun will drop my mileage anywhere between 29 and 26 mpg. That's a BIG difference for not much extended fun.
I usually shift right at 3K (like the manual suggests) and rarely take it past 4K unless I start feeling "sporty".
PS. Always the higher the octane the better everything is. I started my xB on 89 and now sneak in 91 and 93 since prices are dropping. Big difference and the 1.5 loves cold winter air.

I do highway driving to work and back everyday, and there is definately no way that I am getting above 30 mpg. More like 25, my tank of gas lasts me about 250 miles every week. I am a little disappointed about that, but I still love my box.

Lots of MPG BS on these boards. Superstitious lot, these Scion owners, not believing that MPG is inversely proportional to MPH...
During my 60 mi commute I try to set my cruise between 65 to 68 mph. I rarely drive at 70 or above. In town I shift around 3K and usually drive 40 to 45 when I can without legal interference.
PS. Remember this Friday night: Designated Driver does not mean the LEAST drunk!

also- I doubt using pemium gas will do anything. Maybe your car is just better broken in? There is nothing to be gained by using a higher octane gas than the manuf recommends.
I managed to get ~24 MPG earlier this week. How was this? The fine state of Kentucky decided they didn't need to do anything to their roads after well over a foot of snow. The result: between 5 and 30 mph for 3+ hours. Well over an hour of that was spent below 10 MPH in the great Hopkins County, which was a solid sheet of ice.
off topic: snow driving in the xB is awesome, went past waaaaaay too many similar 2wd vehicles which were stuck, very pleased with the handling.

Got an honest 34mpg last weekend. Highway driving, 50-60 mph, light traffic, clean roads, gentle accelleration, stopped once for food. Got passed by just about everything on wheels, but was enjoying the ride.
Next day it was back to city traffic/urban highway where i average around 31 or 32.
Not bad for an aerodynamic shoe-box!

I drive a tC, and I average about 75-80 on the highway (around here everyone does that) which runs the car at about 3K RPM. so I dont think I manage the 30MPG, probably around 24MPG or so, but I gotta check. It would have been nice if they car had another gear to help out at high speeds
