Getting Back into a 1st-Gen - Help!
Hi Everyone:
I'm posting because I'm in need of some help in purchasing a used xB. I'm looking at a 2004 xB, 5-speed, 98,000 miles for $4995. It's a two-owner car and the dealer has maintained the car since 30,000 miles. Seems like a very fair price that's in line with my budget. It also helps that I've owned two of these (a 2005 and 200, so I'm somewhat familiar with them.
Pictures make the car seem to be in really good shape cosmetically, but are there any particular things that I should be looking at with used xBs? They appear to be dead-reliable, but with used 1st-gen xBs are there any particular problem areas that to be addressed with the inspection? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only real problem i had on my 2005 is that i replaced my drivers wheel bearing twice. Each time with about 100,000 miles on them. Other than that i have not had any problems,
I hear some people talking about how the door lock and window switches fail, but mine are still going strong.

Long story short, we ended up test-driving and buying the xB. It appears to be very sound mechanically and cosmetically. I did notice that the drivers power door lock sounded worn, but that's a pretty easy fix should it give up the ghost.
The best part is that the car had over $1200 worth of upgrades that the dealer didn't know about - an AEM CAI, Greddy cat-back (I think the SP2) a Hotchkis strut tower bar and upgraded speakers. Not a bad deal overall, and I'm excited to be back in an xB.
