Blue Onyx is a quite nice color... but you be cleaning it alot ... if you want a low maint. color ... go with silver.. will look the cleanest the longest... it's kinda a boring color in my opinion. My last car was silver and it looked good but I think the xB needs a color with some personality ... so choices 1) Blue 2) Polar white 3) Lava (if any left) 4) Camo
but those are my choices ... pick what you like because odds are you'll have the car for awhile

TCM is easy to clean. That's just my opinion. Anything Dark or White is hard to clean. I don't know how hard camo is to keep clean...Camo owners speak up. However I will warn you on a few things:
Don't get the floormats, I'm wearing a hole in mine and I've had it for a little under 3 months....well, I guess that's it. :?

would not recomend blue pearl ! had one and gave it back to the dealer. if you plan on doing any mods to the engine bay area you'll be disappointed when you lift the hood. the color is an awful teal green or just plain gray primer.I complained to toyota and was informed that thats the way it is and that i should pay to have it painted to match myself if i did not like the way it looked. it would cost over 3000.00 dollars to do that ! anyway.nothing wrong with silver (tcm).my wife has an silver xB and it looks good w/chrome wheels, black wheels, and hyper silver. I own an hot lava # 1886 which i love.there are some for sale on ebay .
whatever color you decide to go with make sure you can live with it .if you don't you'll be very unhappy with your car.i was with the blue one .by the way it gets swirl marks real easy. e-mail us at scionownersclub@yahoo.com and we'll e-mail you some pics.

When I got my SRT-4, the color choice was pretty much done by preference and process of elimination. I didn't want red or yellow, because it was too "Fast and Furious" for me. I didn't want black, because it's too hard to keep clean. So that left silver. I used the same approach when selecting the color for my xB. The darker colors, like black, black cherry pearl, and blue onyx pearl would be too hard to keep clean. The camo green does absolutely nothing for me. That left white and silver. One of the dealers had them side by side, and the white actually didn't look too bad. White and silver hide dirt the best, and based on the fact I wanted a base model with a manual transmission, I got white by default.
i'd say black cherry... because i like that color. but this is for you. ummm, TCM? or camo or black or blue or white or cherry or hot lava. i say go look at the color in person and see what you like more. like me, i originally wanted black sand. i went to the dealer and then had both black sand and black cherry. i saw the black cherry in person and fell in love with it.

I'm always happy to offer an opinion! I like the Black Cherry / pearl. I almost didn't get it because it seemed to be a popular color and I wanted mine to stand out a bit - but in retrospect, I don't see more Black Cherry xB's on the road than other colored xB's. And I still get a fair number of looks from pedestrians and other drivers.
Funny - I have to keep reminding myself that they're looking at the novel car I'm driving, and not staring because the gas cap is hangng open or something else is "wrong".
Anyway - I chose the Black Cherry because I saw it as elegant and mysterious. I say go with your gut feelings.

thanks so much everyone for your input. it is definitely putting things in perspective as to what i want and don't want. i definitely need to get a color that masks dirt pretty well. in november i will have 2 kids and my husband will be in iraq so i definitely want it to be low maintenance, as far as washing it is concerned. not to get off topic but another question came to mind as i was reading the replies. has anyone done or heard of anyone else doing an engine swap? i am planning on doing it further down the road but, i would just like to know what they are swapping into these and how hard it was. i did a search and didn't find anything about it on the forum. i appreciate your input. tia :D

The best advice is to look at the colors in person. I originally wanted either hot lava or bcp, but after seeing hot lava in person, I changed my mind. Based on what you said, a color that's low maintenance would be a good factor, but it still has to be a color you like. Nothing like walking out to your car and hating the color!
You mentioned your spouse is going to Iraq. Which part? I was there last summer for 4 months, in the northern part. It's like the wild wild west out there, and hopefully he'll get some good training to stay out of harm's way. I still think it was a combination of our tactics and luck that prevented any convoys I was in from getting lit up...
I too would be interested in seeing what these aftermarket tuners come up with regarding some kind of engine swap. I'm sure there will be some that will take the stock motor as far as they can, with an intercooled turbo or s/c setup. I hope there will be others that will stuff a V6 or bigger 4 into it as well. Heck, even the Corolla engine is good for 30 more hp! They'll probably find the weak points with a more powerful motor, like the drive shafts or tranny. But it will be interesting anyway...

yeah i definitely do not want to hate the color. i saw the silver one on the lot and wasn't too crazy about it. leaning more towards white now. but i will look at them in person to decide for sure.
my husband is going to be in al asaad or something like that. he is leaving august 9, to go to kuwait and then convoy to al asaad. he will be doing mechanical and maintenance work on helo's and planes while over there. so hopefully he won't be in the middle of the confrontations that are going on over there.
yeah i am really looking forward to seeing some performance mods done on these cars. i'm all about drag racing lol. my husband has an 03' civic si with a t3/t4 greddy turbo kit, intercooler, bov, and all the trimmings, pushing 9 psi. and i absolutely love racing it at the track. and i want a xb so bad not only b/c of convenience (4 doors) but b/c i know there will be tons of stuff available for upgrades in the future. we were thinking about putting a celica engine in it and throwing a turbo on with an intercooler. but after really looking at the engine and the size of the area we would have to work with, it just doesn't look like it is going to fit. but who knows the may come out with engine mounts(not sure if that is what they are called) for it or something. we will have to see.

I should take a picture of my box today and post it....it's FILTHY, I was out at the lake last weekend(dirt road) and the box got all kinds of dusty, then it rained some and then it flooded, then it dried, then it rained some more....I haven't had the chance to wash it, so it's pretty nasty, but it's hard to tell.

I think all of the stock colors could use a bit of help.
I also think the that what gets painted and how it gets painted could use a bit more attention to detail.
As for the stock colors; they're all too bland for my taste. I would love to see a bright red, bright yellow and a solid black. The black sand is too much a charcoal color to me and not black at all...
I have a lava and I bought it sight unseen. My first thought of the orange was it should have been brighter. It looked brighter in the scion.com pics. But out of the available colors, I personally think the lava is the best color that is presently avail... However, I would trade that in a second for bright yellow.
As for the paint itself. The lava that you see on the exterior is a nice deep clear coated finish. BUT!!! Open the rear door or the hood and you have the orange finish without any clear coat, making for a dull orange finish. I just think a few dollars more worth or clear and some buffing would have went a long way to make the car "complete". Not sure if the other colors have the same problem.
