Default Getting a XB

Hey guys and girls My name is mike. I have a 2005 Toyota tacoma X runner and will be trading it in to break even and get a XB. I love my X but gas, insurence, payments really limmit me on what I can do. So I love the Lunch Box's and hope to joing the family by the nend of the week.

I am looking a getting a Black cherry, with a spoiler, short shifter, and Ipod radio. I was wondering what should I be looking for as far as price at the dealer and stuff like that? Also is the TRD muffler pretty good as far as sound? I am not looking to sound ricey but just better then stock. Also what intakes have people seen the best results from? Volant? K&N? AEM?

Thanks guys and I hope that I can learn from everyone here and do my best to help others. also I am in socal rancho cucamonga to be exact. So if antyone is near and know of some meet please let me know. thanks peps and I hope to here from all of you

To answer a couple of your questions...

The price you pay will be what's listed on the website, plus a few hundred in dealer fees. Every dealer must charge the same price on the Scions, it's called Pure Pricing, and every dealer abides.

I have the TRD muffler. It sounds good, maybe a little rice to it, but it does sound much better than stock and looks really good. It does drone at highway speeds, so I did some sound deadening and killed it.

I have the AEM CAI. If I had it to do over again, I'd go either K&N or Injen. The AEM did help a lot, but the filter is really low to the ground and hard to reach.

I do highly recommend looking around for parts - even Scion parts - on the web. Much, much better deals can be found than what your dealer offers. There are good site sponsors around here which have what you want.

You can build one on scion.com and it'll tell you the total price of the car and all the options you added. The dealers don't like to budge on price, falling back on the "Pure Price" guise.

And ya, ^^^^ what he said about adding options. Really its way more cost effective to get them online than adding them at the dealer.

Killer guys, I am gonna head down there tom and check out what they have. i have to drive to palm springs to swap cats with my buddy bfore trading it in. Mine are missing some inners. Then I am gonna remove the HIDs and from what i read in here they are H$ and will fit in the XB. Also I can add my shift light if I want. Can the TRD muff be found cheaper then the dealer? Thanks so much guys, I might have it tom but the cats are gonna slow me down. Thanks once again for all the help

I haven't seen super cheap TRD muflers, but this one is a little better.

Are you stuck on getting the TRD? There are several others out there.

No, I am open to all suggestions. I know TRD doesn't make a real rasper muffler so I was leaning towards that. I am not a big stock fan but can't stand that fart cans. I just need a nice mellow low key muffler. Thanks guys

also is K&N intake the way to go? I have the first Volant intake for the 4.0s and I like it and know they make one that also has a ram type air kit for the XB. Thanks for all the help guys. Gonna go check the dealer out tom and see what I come up with

Well I can't vouch for any other exhausts personally, but I know Precision, Borla, Strup, Tanabe, and DC all make one, plus more I am sure.

Check out the power hungry forum for further details on the exhausts and intakes.

Which Borla, and how much did these mods change your gas mileage?

Default GOT THE XB

all I can say is wow I love this thing. I just got done throwing my HIDS on and LED in the turn sigs. I love this car. I also got low jack, alarm, plat warrenty, and gap thrown in for free. I had to put up a good fight to have it kept stock and not jacked with over priced rims.

Thats guys for all the help. Now is there anyway to hook up my Ipod using the AUX outlet? I didn't get the IPOD radio because it would have been like $500. I think I can get the ipod to car right?

Thanks once again.....Mike

I think you can simply use a cable to connect to the IPOD to the stock Auxillary port on the stock xB radio. This cable is cheap and has a "male end" that goes into a port similar to the headphone jacks on a discman - that's what i intend on doing but im connecting a laptop to the head unit. Is the ipod headphone jack a standard jack/connector like on sony discmans and walkmans? lol - remember when people bought "walkmans" hahahaha

I bought a male to male cable to connect my Dell DJ to my stock radio in my 2006 xB. It works great.

Probably picked up a "mono" cable. Stereo one has three distinct "rings" on the plug. Or some (low $$) cables are not the correct length. Try pulling it out just the smallest amount. Might help.

iPod upgrade radio is $260. It uses the true line level out signal from the dock connector and allows you to scroll and select music from the HU.

These boxes are fun to drive! My PW '06 is a week old and has a whole 400+ miles on it. Drove it in the rain today (it does rain in So. Cal!) not sure what the deal is with ppl comments on rain noise in the wheel wells. Love my "Shiroi Hako"!

I ordered my cable through Amazon.com never a problem. It is the Sony RK-G136 mini plug to mini plug 1.5 meters for $5.99.
