the stock one seems loud enough... it seems to get people's attention.

From personal experience I've noticed that my horns have attracted MUCH more attention since I've changed them. They are louder and much deeper. When people here beeps they think of small cars and don't seem to care. When they here Whooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmpppps they cringe in fear that they are about to be crushed by a 3 ton truck or larger and look to see how to get out of the way.

If that's true, there's no rule that says you can't mix your horns or have more than two -- the stock ones and some Detriot-style horns. Then, when you hit the horn, it sounds like a couple of drivers are ____ed off instead of just one.

The phrase "girly horn" cracks me up!

The first time I tooted mine I was suprised. I immediately got a mental image of Peter Sellers in one of his Pink Panther movies, disguised as a handyman and driving one of those strange looking European three-wheeled vans in congested downtown traffic, tooting that wimpy little meep meep Eurohorn in a pathetic attempt to get people to move.

That's an image I can live with. :D

it's not all about the effectiveness.... its about the "manliness" of it.... Yeah the best horn may sound like something off a Power Wheels, but I'm looking for more respect than anything.... Hey, with a stock xB, its hard enough to get respect in the first place

I know a guy that has an old Cadillac horn on his Miata. All it ever gets is *laughs,* not respect. He honks it just to get the surprised laughter.

They are easy to install with the factory hardware and sound great. When I hit my horn people's heads turn fast. They are rated for a minimum of 130dB.
So how does the factory horn come off. I can reach mine through the hole where the fog light would be, but it's hard to tell what unscrews. Did you take your bumper off, or remove the honeycomb grill?

I just popped out the upper grill and the driver's side foglight insert. I believe a 12mm socket will remove the original horns. Use a small rachet to remove the middle horn. It's right behind the fascia and there's not much room but it can be done without removing the bumper. Once the original horns are out just remove the mounting plates and attach them to the new horns and reinstall them. The only other modification I had to make was to cut the tape on the drivers side horn's positive wire mount so it would reach high enough for the larger horn.

One of my customers put a huge air horn in his xB....mounted an air compresser right behind the front rt headlight. The thing was LOUD! Sounded like a semi truck coming up behind you....it was great.

My friend's Porshe has a nice air horn on it. I was looking to get something like that for my car, but the semi truck horn is also appealing.

I have a separate set of air horns install, all six trumpets went into the left corner of the bumper, plus the compressor. When the button is depressed, six notes to the tune of the theme from "Godfather" will sound. The button is separate, therefore the stock horn is still usable.

U can try the sound of the horns from here, just click on products....

FYI, air horns are illegal for car here where I live.
