Yes !! I used to lug 2 mountain bikes upright inside my '97 Chrysler minivan. I'm extremely happy to report that the same 2 bikes fit inside my XB.

Thats very cool! Believe it or not our Boxes have tons of space...it may not seem that way but it sure as hell have allot of room!! Congrats!

awesome!.. and it looks like you've got room to spare!.. i was very hesitant to roof mount my bikes... especially since the box is pretty tall... did you make/create the mount setup yourself or pick it up somewhere?... either way, nice job!..

The mount I got at a bicycle shop - you can bolt it down if you want but it has non-skid rubber on the bottom and I've always just set it down. The weight of the bikes plus a couple of bungie cords which I run through the bike frames and hook to the anchors on the sides of the XB rear interior keep everything tight.

The wheels are 18 inch ION wheels. They were a dealer add on so I don't know where they exactly came from. I liked them because they were chrome instead of the brushed duller finish that is on many wheels.

Back to the bike mount. You can look for this pre-made mount (I think the brand was "Hollywood") This one you can put 2 or 3 front fork mounts on it. I use 2 mounts. You can also get the fork mounts separately and mount them on a board yourself if you are handy with tools.

I think I saw the motegi scion with a go cart in it at a show. I like putting my mountain bike in the back as well. A roof rack would change the "look" of the car and I think it would look too top heavy. I like them inside anyway.

If your mtn bike is on the long side, you will have to tuck the rear wheels between the 2 front seats a bit. Not a big problem, but in my old Chrysler minivan the bikes would fit straight -- It depends on your particular bike. I just throw an old bedsheet over the part of the rear bike tires that protrude - much nicer than driving with the wife's garden supplies loaded up from her charging through the landscaping store... ($$$$$)...

I almost got a rear external bike rack - was bidding on eBay for it. Lost out on the bid, found out I did not need the shazbuttty external rack, now I'm a real happy camper.

Riobi: I have one "normal" 26" bike and one 24" bike, though two 26" would fit..
The main thing is lower the bike seats down and all is well.

Has anyone tried hauling a mountain bike without removing the front wheel? Maybe laying down? I have a Honda Trail Pilot that I like to ride at the local walk/bike track. I've been using my fathers truck to haul the bike before I got the xB.

well, maybe his particular bikes do fit, but in absolutely no form or fashion are two adult size mountain bikes fitting in the xB... I really had my hopes up when I bought this car for this very purpose... the picture clearly shows two bikes, BUT one is a 24" and one is a 26" ... this means that yes, one bike will fit, but the second bike must be a kids bike. Road bikes without aerobars would probably fit, but the longer wheelbase of the mountain bikes just won't let it work EASILY.

I also have bar ends on both bikes, so with both front seats pushed all the way forward and the bikes as angled as possible the hatch will not close... it needs another 8 or more inches...

I am looking at building a possible rack to mount the forks right behind the front seats, so that the brakes and bar ends would be above the driver and passenger's heads. With the headrests removed it might be possible to fab up a small rack that could attach to the baby seat tie downs on the back of the seats... it will be tight and the rear of the bikes will need to be angled towards one side. Of course loading will become a two person job, but oh well...

I'm just gonna get a roof rack for the short trips / kayaks / snow skis... but I am really preferring to lock up the bikes and protect them from the elements...
