Default Help a Newb

So I am getting a Scion xB in about a month. I wanted some opinion on a few things. and Had a few questions too.

Salsa or Black
Is there an aftermarket alternative to the interior LEDS?
Does the iPod radio transfer sound to all speakers?
Is the radio Sirius "Ready".... can i just buy an antenna and service.
What is the quality of the factory speakrs... shall i uograde?
How much would a normal body shop charge to piant the top half of an xB?
How does bass sound in the xB?
I am getting an xB with a fold down ramp for my wheelchair and hand controls. Where am i going to sit those subs.... could i attach them to the roof? so the face down?

Thanks....

I can only answer the LED question. Yes, there are other alternatives. For one, check out Randode
www.randode.com

Look under the features drop down for Parts and select lighting for some info.....

Good luck and have fun with your new toy

1. Salsa. the black is nice but hard to keep nice looking
2. www.oznium.com cold cathode connection
3. ipod connection sends sound through whole system
4. dunno
5. factory speakers are fine for now. just be kind to them. lol
6. get estimates
7. set ssp on xA and use the "feel" mode. also add a sub out back
8. not sure about the rest.
Good luck and let us know how it goes Bro!

you could put a sub under the front seat(s)...its been done...and i think i've seen a company make boxes for that... or maybe its just a few ambitious owners that were willing to make them for others.
Im not sure about the sirius thing.. it think that the stock HU has its own special plug for the satelite stuff.. not like the off the shelf ones.... i think thats what i've read/seen but could be wrong.
for painting the top half... for good (not a $200 special) probably about 1000 would be a starting point... you could probably find it lower but think 1000 would be a safe point... i was quoted 800 just to respray the hood and front fenders and grill.....

The satellite radio (XM or Sirrus) is an extra component that is added to the stereo. It is usually mounted under the passenger seat (that is were it is on my RS3.0). If you look at trdsparks.com, they also have the installation manual on pdf.

1. Salsa? Is that available for the xB?
2. The Ipod does play on all aspeakers and the radio can control the sound, fade and balalnce etc.
3.The radio is ready for sirus or the other satelite radio
4. I think the factory speakers are THE BEST factory sound I have heard in a low priced vehicle. The addon sub is nice if you like a huge bump at 40hertz. It sounds like crap to me but I don't listen to rap, hippity hop (LOL) or any of that stuff. The stock system has a nice range with excellent bass response. Someday I might upgrade but no need to now.
IF YOU WANT THE SUBWOOFER, it is available for less outside the dealer. It could be mounted on the floor behind one of the front seats, although it will mess with leg room.
5. I would have the paintwork done in a good body shop, and pay 1/2 of what the dealer is going to ask.

Good luck with your new xB and post pictures of the wheelchair lift setup. Others have asked about that.

You don't need super high watt mega subwoofer setup to feel some bass in an xb. a fair watt amp and one decent 10' or 12' sub, and you'll be thumping plenty.
Of course, it all depends on what you're looking for. Like somebody else mentioned- they make sub enclosures that fit under the seats... I've also seen some that go in the small area next to the spare tire, under the cargo area. a setup to feel some bass in this car is easy.
I think people who go for the megawatt amps and huge cargo area filling sub enclosures find themselves having to do all kinds of extra sound deadening and crap just so their car doesn't go buzz buzz instead of thump thump. Of course, all of this is so the guy 3 cars back can feel some bass too.

The ipod adapter has it's flaws. It is kinda scrathcy sounding. upgrade to a deck from alpine or kenwood, the have real Ipod kits that work really good. Led's can be had through randode , but It is kinda pricey for what you get. It is plug and play with directions. people on here have his kit and seem very happy with it. If you have any electrical knowledge and some spare time you can buy cold cathodes and Led's from www.oznium.com .I have three set of cathodes in my box with 5 led's in each back door and 8 led's in each front door, and still have around 25 or 30 leds to install in the console and dash, a/c vents and the upper speaker grilles. I haven't spent $100.00 yet and so far I am very happy with the results.

You will get better sound out of your speakers if you upgrade however, you should know that the stock door speakers are riveted into the doors so you will need to drill the rivets out and make baffles to get an aftermarket set installed. Might add a little extra $$ to the installation if you're not installing them yourself.

The stock deck is SAT "READY" so you'll need the SAT reaceiver. The stock decks DIN connecter is a toyota part so you MUST use the dealer SAT receiver ; aftermarket XM/SIRIUS units will NOT plug into the stock deck. AND, of course, the dealer reciever is a tad bit pricey! You could get an aftermarket deck with SAT and ipod controls that will give you more sound adjustment options for a little more than going with the dealers SAT option.

Agreed on the LEDs, get em aftermarket and do em yourself. It's not as hard as you might think and it's a BAZILLION times cheaper than going with the dealer option!!!

i guess i shoulda searched eh? so i just got looking at the demo car of the scion. its amazing. the rear is 2" higher then stock, but when the ramp comes out the whole rear comes down 8" to unfold the ramp....amazing. it has an air ride suspension.

The First pic is the elevated rear end. Next is the ramp I will drive into. Last is the transfer seat. It moves back and rotates.

My sccoter will go directly behind the passenger seat. I am thinking of getting running LEDs on the sides in the back I saw the car today as i said before, and i think ive found a place for the subs. As you can see they totally cut the whole floor out. That is why it has air ride.

If anyone has any ideas for some sic mods im up for suggestions... oh and by the way i drive with this only... no steering wheel

Cool set up Bro! Talk about cargo space. LOL I wonder how that driving set up would work for auto crossing?
So hope it works out for you though! Please keep us posted after you get it.
