Default Hooking up my laptop to check engine codes

A friend of mine is able to hook his laptop up to a port in his Jetta in order to moniter everything the engine computer is doing. Is there an equiv for scions?

Default engine codes

If you can wait till August, scangauge is coming out with a updated model that has a USB port. Check out their website http://www.scangauge.com I am waiting for this one to come out.

He may have special software for the VWs. I just use an OBDII scantool for mine. Like 50 bucks at Auto Zone.
