I strongly doubt so too. Worst case senario---> T-boned by some country hicks jacked up truck or even a semi. Yes, lots of head room is wonderful.........but for those that don't buckle their seat belts.....that's alot of room to tumble around in........

Well I cant speak from experience as far as a real accident in my scion but I had a traffic cone dropped on my car by some a**hole while doing 75mph and it did $1,500.00 worth of damage to my ride denting it all to hell. So if a cone could do that much damage then I am going to say that if an accident occurs the car will prob. get pretty torn up.

As far as the saftey goes I would like to think that the crumble zones, airbags, and seat belts would to their job of protecting us.

my wife was driving my scion last october when she got rear ended by some dummy driving a late 80's olds of some make she couldn't remember.

we replaced the rear bumper pieces and the muffler tip, but no structural damage was done. just cosmetic stuff.

funny thing was, she said it destroyed the front end of his car. apparently not only would the car not run, the radiator was toasted- she said there were liquids drippiing out all over the place. it was towed away, and she drove all the way home from work (which at that time was about 50 miles) without a problem.

traffic cones have all kinds of sharp corders, and have you tryed to pick one up lately, they are as heavy as hell. I can see why a 15 lb. could do that much damage. There is a thread on here about a guy hitting a deer, and it did no damage.

Damn traffic cones. I guess that is why who ever hit my car decided to throw and cone off the overpass instead of a deer.

Damn.... lol

lol, sorry about that, it should have been more devided, the Cone came from above, the soft spot of the xB, and the deer was infront, were the xB has its fat bumper to protect it.

I saw one at Ft. Bragg this past weekend that was completely smashed in the front with both bags deployed. Passanger cabin was untouched and doors opened fine. I'd say they do farily well.

Here are the Japanese test results, in English:

It seems to me the bB did very well in all three tests: frontal, offset, and side.

These are also my observations, the skin and outer pieces are fragile and vunerable to being damaged quite easily. The crumble zones and saftey designed into the subframe seems to be sound. The car has solid engineering with very light materials to keep weight and cost down. You can't have it all....
