Default How do you feel about someone copying your ride?

So I was going about my usual business, going to class on Ft. Bragg, when lo and behold, I see a custom xB turning onto the road I was on. I wouldn't have noticed it had it not been my color and had a semi-rare JDM part, a DAMD smoked FFF. I then noticed the ESAM style rain visors. The noticed his lights were blacked out like I planned. The only thing he had that I wouldn't was black wheels. I want AXIS Oldskoolz. In my head this is exactly what I was going to do to my xB from the moment I commited to buying one in October.

So here's the question, how would you feel if you went thru all the trouble to stand out, and some guy from your own base, does something quite similar?

truthfully, at first i would feel frustrated. i mean, like you said you spend time to try and stand out and then you become one in the same.

but as i think about i would say that i would also have to be a little flattered that someone would want to copy me. it is not every day that someone likes an idea that comes from me.

all in all, i would say that i would not feel so bad if someone thought that my work was so good that they had to have the same thing.

I think you over reacted....

Everyone thinks that DAMD front smoked grille/light cover is a cool part. As for the visors they are dime a dozen and anyone into any JDM parts ends up with them.

It is different if you went through the hassle of getting a rare JDM body kit imported ($5000) so you could be the only one in the US with it. Then you found out someone was copying you.

Chalk it up to you are on the path to a hot ride.

well dude, i wouldnt necesarily say you are copying this guy. think about it, who doesnt want a damnd smoked fff? most of us would rock one of these even if someone in our own city had one, and everyone has esam or esam style visors, so really are these two mods really that unique? sure the damd is pretty rare to come buy, so you may not even end up with one. i think even if you do get these parts, your idea of different wheels would make you ride different. i guess if you that concerned just adjust some of you ideas, like maybe red out your tailights intead of blacking them out, or make your own custom fff.

this is exactly why i stopped sharing my ideas with ppl. i am a college student which means i dont make as much money as others on here so it takes a lil more time for me to get my mods on the car and what not. its happned in the past, ive told ppl somthing that i was planning, and lo and behold a few weeks later they would be rocking that mod while im left kicking myself for telling them abt it.

Yeah, I even realize its not copying, because it was in my mind before I even saw it, its just like...damn, what to do now. Honestly I will probably go ahead and do it. I was just wondering what the community's stance on this was. People are VERY defense over their toasters

Yea, I agree... Its all just about been done already anyways though hasnt it? Unless you're talking about HUGE modding, like for a show car. I say do what you planned to do.
There's always little things that people like us would see that makes it different.

Ian nailed it. I would just be happy to have other xB's live near me that were modded. Out of 3 in the county mine is the only one that isn't stock.

To telll the truth it Is hard to be differant if all you do is bolt stuff on you buy. Because someone els can buy it to and what would really get you is if he paid less. just my 2 cents.

Its hard to have "all" different things done to your car....espically if your friend or friends have the same car....i mean i have my own tricks in store to do to my car....but at the sametime somethings overlap mods my friends want to do....all in all i just switch it up here and there...and add different touches to it...to make it my own,,,,but still stand out....

As has been said, it's all been done before.
Just do what YOU want to do to your ride. Don't worry about anyone else. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Hey Just a thought here. Why not go talk to the Guy who knows maybe he'll hook you up with some advice and a source to bounce your ideas off of that way the 2 camo b'scan be different but still use some of the same ideas he might give you an idea you haven't thought of

I agree do what you want with your xB thats what makes it yours. we have several cars that use the same ideas but are complete unique based on the drivers preference

There are only so many aftermarket parts for these cars...eventually someone is going to have the same thing as you...

I mean look at me and Zack (pandabox) our boxes are almost twins other than the rims...it just happens...thats when you sit back and say "hmmm great minds think alike" haha
