Hmmmm, road trip to California from Pennsylvania to check out the Xb's ...

Four times:

Once in a car that was not the color we wanted. Salesman just about stuffed us in the car to get us to drive it. He would have made a sale but he never got the color and transmission we wanted, even before the feeding frenzy.

Three times in cars that were the color and transmissions that we wanted. The first of these, the dealer tried to slip a documentation fee into the paperwork, the second couldn't get a stock stereo installed in less than three (!) days, and the third did everything right and made the sale.

The dealer I ordered mine from had a demo model all pimped out. I live about 30 minutes from the dealer and he let me take it home to show the wife. I had it for about two hours. I woulda bought one without the test drive though.. These are like the bit-o-honey's in the checkout line. You see them, you buy one. The guilt comes later.

My dealer let me take home his xB and my brother take home his xA for a week while they were closed for christmas. It was great. He had rims, lowering springs, and tinted windows done aftermarket.

I sat in mine about 15 minutes before signing all the paperwork, does that count? I was going to buy it no matter how it handled/ran/felt... After hanging around at the dealership for about 4 hours or so, I hopped in my new xB and drove it for the first time, 5 hours to home... wootage.

I've only test driven an xB once. It had 18" wheels, and there were four people in the car, with the A/C on. It wasn't a very good indicator of how the car would drive on an everyday basis (e.g. with one or two people in the car). With only 108 hp, I know that having four adults in the car would make the xB feel extrememly slow. I know it's not a rocket, but I was flooring it everywhere we went to keep up with traffic. However, I liked the way it drove on the highway. I need to have another test drive and I'd like to drive an xA, too.
