Default I need help with service question. replies needed asap!!

Simple..i am at work...
Car is at toyota/scion.
Header gasket blew..making an annoying "ticking" sound
i have an extended extra care service agreement up to 100k or sept 2011..

it's an 06 scion xb.

They want me to pay 180 for the service.. why isn't this covered?????
they also want to charge me 260 for carbon build up in throttle body and injectors? STP can fix that? lol?

HELPPP

It all depends on what you paid for when you bought the contract. Some(many) dont' cover gaskets. Get your original paperwork, see what you paid for, and take it from there.

Sorry I dont' have better news and Yes, you ca clean the TB and injectors yourself.

If you've installed a header pipe, Warranty will not cover that gasket reguardless because it's now a modified componant and warranty only covers stock pieces.

If you are looking for a cleaner, check out Seafoam. That stuff is awesome. Read up on the howtos as well as check out the vids on youtube.

I guess I better not use my extended warrenty and when the time is up get my money back on it. Man that's a ripoff when they cover things that don't break instead of the stuff that does.

it kind of difficult to get back there, but once u remove the valve plastic cover u'll have plenty of space. make sure to go to scionlife.org and look at how to install it, it's easy bro, really easy.

It's called paying for your deductible!

MOST aftermarket extended warranty companies, make you pay some sort of deductible, so that the work can get performed on your vehicle...

Read the fine print, on your contract and see if that's why the dealership is charging you $180.

It shouldnt be that hard to get the money back. Most dont even know you can do it. If the car has no service report, then what would be the problem?

I don't know about you but I am having a hard time getting used to mechanics / shops charging $70-100 and hour to work on cars. But then again medical billing is in the $1200 and hour range and they don't fix anything most of the time.

The first and last tiem i needed someone else to do somthing for me... no time. I usually do it myself.

BTW the gasket that needed changing was not the header to block, but rather header to collector/ downpipe.

i neeed to take a welding class stat.

Get a good 1/2" breaker bar and about 1.5 feet of extensions. Get yourself a couple cans of PBBlaster and let the bolts soak. You will also need to loosen the bolts to the header as well. It's much easier to remove the header completely when working with the doughnut gasket. If you are going to remove the header to do this, may as well try to find a cheap aftermarket header while you are at it.

If that doesn't work you take a torch to the manifold and get it glowing red hot and then the bolt will come right out.
