Default Hmm

Personally... I think its the japanese screwing up American slang (not that i have a problem with it)... I see a lot of things like Stylist and bBist and who knows what else... but if you want take it for its literal defintion than here it is...

-ist
suff.

One that performs a specified action: lobbyist.
One that produces, makes, operates, plays, or is connected with a specified thing: novelist.
A specialist in a specified art, science, or skill: biologist.
An adherent or advocate of a specified doctrine, theory, or school of thought: anarchist.
One that is characterized by a specified trait or quality: romanticist.

Just my two cents :D

I don't think Ist stands for anything. According to the Toyota factory tour, bB is for Black Box.

the letters in IST don't stand for anything. Its pronounced like "east". And the letters don't stand for anything.

I read "best balance" in an article somewhere, but I'm going by what they told me at the factory plant here in Japan over that; which is that it's "black box". Of course...not all of the bB's I see rolling around here are black...but that's Japan.

And yea...in Japanese, Ist would sound more like "east" (actually...it sounds more like "easuto")...I still can't help but say it like in English...probably more because of an old joke from a few years back. (Though I could swear that our tourguide said it like it would be in English, not Japanese...)
