INT Wiper Adjustibility!
Well i found what it takes to control the INT wiper setting. But I need to know a few things on what people would like best!
#1 - What the IDEAL maximum pause for the INT wiper setting? It will goto 0-sec (no pause) to ?-sec (Longest pause).
What ever is the average time people say, i will design it around that.
#2 - Best location for the control dial? I was thinking at the end of the Wiper control, but I'm not a professional fab guy, so to make something that looks OEM would be hard. I could put it down in one of the 3 empty pop-out blow the cubble, but that would be clumsy. Any segs? Let me know.
#3 - Would Vehicle Speed adjusting wipers be overkill? or Needed? If so, whats a good incrament? -.25sec per 10MPH? Or make that adjusting?

Man, that's pretty cool. I would have like 4 settings, if possible. I like to have many settings. Where is that control? Do you have any pics/diagrams?

If you wanna make the real deal, and make some good money, you should look into how much it costs to buy an OEM variable INT wiper arm from Toyota. If they sell the part alone (and that's a big if, but i'm hoping/assuming they do) I couldn't imagine that it would be too terribly expensive.
Is anyone on good speaking terms with a Toyota parts department wiz? My previous mods and upgrades on VW's were always made better with the help of a local parts department "rainman" who had memorized every part that ever came out of Wolfsburg. It is so much nicer when even aftermarket toys have OEM switches and fittings.

How hard do you think it'd be to get INT on the REAR wiper? It sucks it isn't set to INT by default, cuz otherwise it's TURBO TIME. I dunno bout you guys, but I don't think a hurrican would throw enough water on there to justify that speed.

I've only used the rear wiper in really bad rain storms.
One swipe every 5-10 seconds on intermittent would be
great for the rear wiper.
Why must toyota do things that hard way? I've had to reverse engineer the whole damn "Combination switch". They find the most complex and confusing way to do something so simple. Not to meantion, even having the schematic on hand, i have to find each component before i can do anything, well after taking it apart, I found they hide the components so the only think i can see are their leads! Thats it. So it's slowing me down a little, but w/ some more research I should get it.
And for those who wunna know how it works and what i'm doing to make it work:
Well think of it in the terms of the "Bucket". Think of a bucket, and you must will the bucket (capacitor) before it will switch on the wiper. Well say you have a hose that pumping the water. If you have a small hose (Large value resistor) it will take some time to fill the bucket. Now if you have a Large hose that flows more water (small value resistor) you will fill the bucket much after. So the INT control will in sense me a Valve to this bucket. Now the hard part. Finding where too hook up the value, you place in the wrong place, just say not good. So i have to be VERY careful and knowing were to place it. On paper, i know, on the curcuit board, thats another story. But i'll keep you informed.

I had to drive a Coralla recently, while my box was in for repairs. First thing i noticed was that most of the switches and buttons are exactly the same. Almost in the same spots.
The next thing i noticed was that the stalk for the wipers was almost identical, cept for one thing. The intermitant adjustment was there. One the other side of the steering wheel, there was the cruise control. This made me ask myself, if they installed these on the Coralla, why not offer them on the Scion line? This may be where you need to look to start for that intermitant wiper fix.

Yes. . . you should check out Lexus too!
But yes, Toyota's get variable int, and I'm not 100% sure, but I think the tC does too. Secondly, we don't get them (even tho the parts are available) because they cut as many costs as possible, and offered the cars monospec(also cuts inventory/production/allocation costs).

You've got to be crazy to spend that kind of time on something like that. I have a solution- apply rain-x correctly and continue to apply it at least every two weeks (depending on the rain), then get a 12mm end wrench pop the black thumbnail-shaped cover off of the base of the wiper and then remove them, all three of them, If you apply rain-x correctly you will never need wipers again. It looks a lot cleaner also. And with a windshield angled like our xb's it works even better. But you must keep it clean, bugs stuck to it will hold water in the rain. If you use rain-x correctly and then turn your wipers on it only makes it harder to see.

I love Rain-X. But in the snow-belt where they use road salt mixed with calcium chloride even the Rain-X can’t cope. Especially on the rear which gets the turbulence deposits of all the scuz off the road. You just have to move it off mechanically.

what? Yes, that's why our cars COME with wipers. . . be thankful they even have INT at all. . . the older generation Corolla VE (up to 2001, I think) did not have INT, only fast and faster. It's my gf's car and a pain to drive in the rain/mist/fog. No clock, no CD, no power anything, no cruise, no 4th gear (yes only 3 gears in an auto!), no armrest, no tach, no trunk release (need key to open trunk), NO HUB CAPS BUT NAKED GREY STEELIES, plenty of ugly, man I hate that car. But they cut so many corners from our Scion's cars, its not even funny, but you still have all the stuff you REALLY need, and they are still cheap. . . cheaper than a Corolla VE was, and much much faster to boot, with more interior room, both with the xA and xB, and a kazillion times more equipment.
I realize this is an old thread, but it's all my searching has come up with.
Is there a variable intermittent wiper solution for the xB? I'm hoping the Corolla stalk has a potentiometer built into it, and that the wiring is the same. If so, it would be a simple swap.
I also checked through the How-To section and could not find anything on this.
