Interesting Fuel Finding
First off, I am in San Diego, which has some of the highest gas prices in he nation. As always, your mileage may vary.
I drive a standard '06 xB, snorkel removed from the intake, tires at 37psi, synthetics in the trans and engine, 15" aftermarket wheels w/ OEM tires. Copper plugs gapped at .035. I have never used acetone. Over the past 6 months, I have averaged 36.6 MPG.
I track all my fill ups to gain a good sense of my MPGs, both from fill to fill, but also overall mileage. I was figuring my overall MPG when I came across this interesting tidbit of info regarding Shells 87 octane prices (the only gas I have used since new) over a 2 year period:
5.20.2006 (first fill after "break-in" period) - I paid $3.39/gal.
9.30.2006 (lowest price paid) - $2.31/gal.
5.01.2008 (most recent fill) - $3.85/gal.
At least for me, this puts the whole "higher fuel prices" debate in perspective. Gas costs me forty-six cents more today than 2 years ago.
What does this prove? Nothing.
Just thought Id share.

All the idiot rednecks in the town I live in think xBs are ridiculous, until I tell them I can get 33mpg while hauling a filing cabinet.
I filled my tank the other day after the light came on, and it still cost me less than $40. It'll last me three weeks, too.
On Strong Island here in NYC the average is $4.10 and some are as high as $4.17. Crude went up $5 yesterday, and tomorrow is the Friday before Memorial Day ... so i know its going to go up at least another 5 cents either tonight or tomorrow morning.

gas is about $4.10 for 87 octane Arco .... another 10 cents more per gallon if you want Shell or Chevron.
Its weird seeing SUV's and trucks rolling around now that you know get under 20 mpg , and the operators /owners still driving them. Its really sad to think ... but I guess not everyone can make the switch ASAP.
