Default It's a B!

The car actually came in Tuesday, 10 days after we ordered it, but we couldn't get all the ducks in a row until Saturday to pick it up. This is a stock 05 Auto xB with only fog lights, the security system, and floor mats added. (Thanks to whoever posted the Scion Security System install manual; we made sure they got it calibrated correctely and it works well.)

We won't be doing much to the car -- an armrest, maybe some window visors -- because we really like it as it stands. We picked the xB because it's so practical, with easy entry/exit that's gentle on the arthritic knees and bad backs of a couple in their mid-50s.

The fact that it's cheap to buy and cheaper to operate, fun to drive, looks good, and comes with Toyota's legendary build quality just made the decision that much easier.

This pic was taken while we were still doing the paperwork at the dealer.

Went for a nice night drive last night with an MP3 CD mix of prog rock -- Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, IQ, Frameshift, Glass Hammer -- to break in the audio system. This car has nothing to apologize for.

Congratulations! You'll find that the xB is even MORE fun to drive, MORE practical, and MORE enjoyable than you thought.

I've had my 05 xB since Jan 3, 2005, and the more I drive it, the more I appreciate it.

If depreciation were an issue for me, I would have tried to find a way. But we always drive our cars until they have no value left in them anyway. Our 80 Datsun 210 lasted until the floor rusted out. Out 82 Tercel lasted 16 years when we decided not to buy a new engine for it. Our 91 MPV is still being driven by our son down in NC.

But the HU mod is the only change to the xB for 06, and since I'm comfortable with buttons and will never own an iPod (love my Rio), it's a non-issue.

I really wonder what will happen with the leftover 05s, though, since there do seem to be a few scattered about the country. Will Scion dealers actually have to ::gasp:: discount them?

Congratulations! Looks great... Your
post reminds me of my first impressions of the
Scion. The build quality is amazing given the
price. I've never been a big fan of any one car
manufacturer but the 2 Toyota products that
I've owned have performed flawlessly and were
built very well. Enjoy!
