Default JDM Toyota bB Released in Japan as Daihatsu Coo

This week Daihatsu launched a new minivehicle in Japan named the Coo. The five-passenger box looks like a Scion xB with more expressive exterior styling. In fact, it's almost a dead ringer for Scion's concept bB that's supposed to portend the next gen xB.

The Coo features front- or all-wheel drive mated to either a 92-hp 1.3L engine or 109-hp 1.5L engine. It's also loaded with electronic safety nannies like stability control and ABS with electronic brake-force distribution. Pricing for the Coo will range from $11,500 to $15,500 in Japan, which is the only market in which the vehicle will be sold. Daihatsu expects to build about 1,000 units per month.

Toyota owns Diahatsu, so it looks like they just badge-engineered this model for the Japanese market. Strange... is it going to be released as the bB, too?

it isn't a scion bB. it's a toyota bB sold through their "netz" dealers.

I believe they were made in the same plant in NorCal. There have been other GM/Toyota sister models.............

I search for a definitive answer as to what will replace the xB here--and I read lots of speculation. We should know about 2007 very soon I would think.

I agree. Why would Toyota want to set up and tool a completely different car to replace the xB? You would think they would roll with the ne bB..............We know they are not going to produce Scion here so a new xB that was unlike any JDM would be pretty costly for them for such a limited production vehicle like the xB.

Actually, the Vibe is produced at NUMMI (CA) and the Matrix is produced at TMMC (Canada).....though the Vibe is based on the Matrix.

Both cars are based on the Corolla....which both plants build.
