Default Just got an XB, got a few questions...

After wanting a Scion for a LONG time, I finally got the ok and am now the owner of a nice 06 red Scion XB. Needless to say i'm happy with it, it runs great and seems to be just an all around good car. However, even after some messing around with it, I have a few questions... Sadly it didn't come with an owner's manual (bought used from a dealer who wasn't Scion/Toyota, and somewhere along the line it was lost), so after some asking/looking around I found this forum and hope you can help.

1. High beams. It seems the only way to have these on is to pull the light lever back? While not a huge deal, especially as I wouldn't want to use those super bright lights too often where I live, that seems kind of counter-productive and I'm used to a system where it's on more like a toggle.

2. Cruise Control, I can't seem to find it. Again not really a huge deal, but some friends of mine I let drive it (they were kind of "meh"ish on it until they drive mine, and now I think a couple ofTHEM are going to get one lol) and commented on it.

3. Along with my Scion I got a net type thing "shoved" into the same compartment as the jack. At first I was thinking it was a cargo net for across the back gate (yay, although I've never had one and did fine), but that doesn't seem to be the case as it doesn't stretch all the way across the back. Also, the net portion seems to be in more of a "U" type thing and there are only 2 hooks. The final detail, if you will, is almost like a shoulder strap type thing... Although I HIGHLY doubt that is the intended use. Does anyone know what it is and what it's for? I can take a pic or two if needed, but hopefully someone knows.

4. Speaking of cargo nets, is there any way to tell if my XB will accept one? Or should that be standard on all XBs? I ask because when I found that thing above I looked for possible mount hook type things, and didn't really find any. I did find 4 (2 on either side) little folding hook type things, but none on the bottom which has be confused... Although there are some pop-out panels (that look almost like speaker covers) that could be removed and may hide the hooks?

Finally a kind of combo question about the XB and general driving.

5. Traction button... I assume this is to help when you're driving on icy/slippery roads and isn't something that should be turned on all the time. Around me that rarely happens (well the icy, we can have some nasty rainstorms every now and then) and I've never driven in the mountains/snow so I probably wont use that much I'm guessing. Or is it something I should turn on in the rain and if I ever go up into the snow?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: yay, I just found an owner's manual from this site right here. Hopefully some of those questions above will be answered and made clearer from that. Still, if anyone wants to answer any of those that'd be good too hehe

Thanks for the replies.

That tire thing makes a lot of sense, although I was thinking that when/if it happens I'd just put it in the spare tire compartment lol. I'm still not too sure on the cargo net thing, but it sounds like I should be able to find hooks somewhere. So maybe I'll dig around a little tomorrow. I think the most interesting thing is the lack of a standard cruise control though... I rarely (if ever) use it, but it's still just always been there lol.

On the high beam and traction thing, just reading through the OM seems to have cleared up these really. For the high beams, I was pulling the lever TOWARDS me, which just flashes them, whereas AWAY from me turns them all the time (according to the OM, haven't gone to test it). Also, the traction button is to turn it OFF it seems, for certain conditions I can't remember atm lol, and it's always on normally. So I guess I wont be touching that that often, especially when it rains or if I ever go up to the mountains.

I was fine knowing they didn't come with cruise as standard stuff. I wish other things like the useless rear wiper WERE optional.
Enjoy learning about and riding in your Box. Owners manual assemblies can be had on ebay. There was a leather case and all. Wait till you figure out the stock HU and possible add the ipod jack.

Ya, I don't really mind that it doesn't come with standard cruise control. I RARELY take any long road trips, so thats not a big deal. I actually already have a cable for my aux input to use my ipod lol. I don't think my radio supports anything more than that though... But I also burned some data mp3 cds of some music I don't have on my ipod lol.

As for the first mod... sadly probably nothing atm. even though I got a good deal, I'm now kind of strapped for cash. Luckily the boxes are very fuel efficient so I don't have to worry about high gas prices as much lol. I'm not sure if you guys would call it mod or not, but I am kind of eying some neon or led lights for the inside and outside of the car. Add in a little accent type thing. I'm already happy with the sound system actually, which means either Scions come with good speakers or the prior owner upgraded lol. Or both. And of course I want to find a cargo net lol.

I know thats only the tip of the iceberg of what can be done, but thats what on my mind for maybe happening.

Congrats on the new purchase. If and when you decide that you want to add stuff, look here on the classifieds and also on www.clubxb.com under their classifieds. Parts are cheap to come by now, as the box has been out for more then half a decade.

Be careful of club xB. There are some great people there but the person running site is full of himself. I got caught up in a drama filled thread and was the only one banned for life.

Ooooh, lifetime banning! *gets popcorn*

So hey, another lovely random question that I just thought of. I know cruise control isn't standard, but what about a cigarette lighter and ashtray lol. my box doesn't seem to have one >_> Although I don't really care much since I don't smoke, but I know GPS units and such run off it. Then again, aren't there nav units that are built into the radio for Scions?

Congrats! You'll love it.

Get used to not having it. The box was intended for Japanese city streets mainly so Cruise wasn't important. It's okay, you'll get better mileage on hills if you learn how to use the throttle well.

3. Along with my Scion I got a net type thing "shoved" into the same compartment as the jack. There are only hooks on the top.

You can turn it off to help in snowy conditions( Traction control will slow your wheels down when you may need them to keep you from sliding backwards or something), or to do that occasional rainy burnout.
Thanks in advance.

It's inexpensive to paint the insides of the taillight covers red.(looks great too IMO) Lowering springs and wheels help the xB's looks immensely though.

You should be able to search for threads containing the correct sizes for LEDs for your interior.

I'm not loosing sleep over it! The site isn't bad, just the admin.
I dropped Scikotics after we formed Music City Scions so I haven't been there any either. No biggie.

Tomec, yes it came factory with a cig. lighter and ash tray and you could pick them up used at the junk yard prolly. Only Nav units I've seen is maybe on the RS series HUs.

Heh, I don't really care too much about it tbh... I don't smoke, and if someone wants to smoke in my box... >_> As I said though, I know some things run off it.

All the wiring should be there. If your any good at wiring, just pick up an after market cig lighter. The ash tray should be there as well. I dont think that there ever was a smoking package .. meaning that every box came with the cig lighter and ash tray.

and clubxb ... i have found several useful tech tips on there, as well as a good classified section.

Ya I took a closer look and actually it's all there... just very well hidden lol. Which is fine by me, the only thing I MAY use is the lighter to power an ipod or gps unit down the road.
