Does it have an automatic transmission? If so it might not be out of gear and in park all the way.

I had something similar happen a couple times. If it's the same thing that happened to me, just turn the steering wheel a bit and then try to turn the key. Sometimes if the steering wheel is in just the wrong spot, the key won't turn and if I move it a bit (one way or the other) it frees it up. Hope this works for you.

Have you done anything under the center console? There is a cable that goes from the shifter to the lock cylinder to allow the ignition to go into lock when the shifter is in park. If you take the console out, lookon the left side of the shifter for the cable. There is an adjuster a few inches forward of the shifter. Adjust it and make sure nothing is touching or interfering with the adjuster.

I took it to toyota its the shift interlock cable between the shift box and the ignition. Bryan in service said it is covered completely under warranty. Just wanted to post up and let everyone there is an issue with it evidently. They call it "shift interlock cable malfunction".
