Default Keyless Entry

Dealer has the option of Security with keyless Entry for $499 but does anyone know if you can just install the Keyless Entry without the Security?. I don't need the Security/Alarm or whaever it is, I just need the Keyless Entry so that i can open up my door without using the car keys.[/b]

I bought ScionSecurity after I got the car, through TRDSparks. I payed 289.99 and I installed it myself. I like it quite a bit and It comes in handy.

Buy the $62 keyless entry kit from scionspecialties.net and ask Bill for the instruction set I made when I did the install into my RS2

Paying the dealer price for keyless OR security is throwing money out the window IMHO.

On the day I bought my xA, when I drove away from the dealership, the very first place I went was to an after-market stereo shop here in town. I had them install a basic keyless entry for $140. Some places may do it for less, but these guys knew what they were doing and I got a lifetime warranty on it. I'm happy.

I paid $180 for an Audiovox prestige Keyless entry. I'm quite happy with (that included installation)

Oh almost forgot there is a 2nd button and for a 100 extra they can put in the rear trunk latch motor to auto pop the back.

I got a basic alarm with keyless entry from a local shop around here for $89 installed. But the dealer threw in the alarm I have on the xA. I like the cheap $89 alarm better.

The best feature of the cheapo alarm? It turns itself on if the doors are closed after 5 min. It's a little annoying when I buy gas, but when you have your hands full leaving the car it's pretty handy.

For those who are interested, I believe that that $62 keyless from scionspecialties can be programmed to do the same. I bet that Bill would set it up for you, or you'd just have to buy a momentary switch and read the instructions to program it yourself.

You got it installed at an alarm place? Or you installed it yourself? Any links?

Default Who's Bill?

I bought my IIP XA Saturday!! Well... almost... I financed through a credit union and when I handed the check to the dealer, we both realized that it required 2 signatures and there was only one I'll have to go back Monday witha REAL check - good thing it's right across the street from where I work.

Anyway, I want to install keyless entry and this $62 option sounds good but I've never installed anything in a car in my life. Can I be trusted?! And who is Bill and how do I ask him for those instructions?

I've been on this forum for a long time looking at the TC since it came out. I just moved to California and finally had to buy a new car (sold the old one in NY before I left). I ended up going for the XA because of the better gas mileage. Hope I'm doing the right thing - I do love how the TC looks but the XA is cute and is more practical for parking in the city.

Anyway, thanks for the info on this forum. It's been really helpful!

!
Read the comments on Bill as a vendor and you will see he is straight up. The install is EZ and Bill will help you if you get stuck.

Default one more question

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry if I'm being dim but I've done a search for Bill and come up with hundreds of entries and "Bill Vendor" brings up nothing. Any more specific info on where I can find Bill's contact info or the instructions for the install?

Thanks much!

I'm picking up my XA today!!!

I think this is who they mean. Scion Specialties.

Default Thanks

I was starting the think that was probably the case - just wanted some verification. Thanks much!

I picked up my XA finally!! So far, I like it but I definitely want to get keyless entry. Does anyone have the Scion security? Does the alarm go off randomly at all? I live in LA so I wouldn't mind having the engine shutdown functionality but from my experience, alarms are just useless noise makers that only go off when a motorcycle drives by the car too fast.

Happy Driving!

Yeah, Bill is mister "ScionSpecialties" His website is scionspecialties.net but he's also a member here under the name scionspecialistvegas

When I did the install in my RS2 with side airbags, I found that the instructions were a little off. Additionally, I think they were a little confusing for people who might not have done any of this kind of installation before, so I took pictures and came up with a longer, more detailed set of instructions. Bill has them and, I believe, is distributing them with the keyless system. So that's what I meant when I said that you should ask him for the newer instructions.

I've got plans to put together a DIY step-by-step to be posted here on Scionlife in the tech section, but I haven't had a chance. There are a couple things I want to rework from my original instructions and I just haven't found the time to do it yet.

There are a couple threads about the Scionspecialties keyless entry in the ICE forums. If you search for my posts, I've posted in those threads and you can also find other comments and Bill's posts as well.

Congrats on the new xA. Now lets see some pics!
