Keyless Entry Problem
Just recently I've experienced a problem with the keyless entry on my 2004 xB. When I attempt to unlock with car with the remote it sets the alarm off. It seems to not just be relegated to the early morning (when their might be moisture involved) as this happens in the afternoon and evenings as well. I changed the battery in the remote a few days ago and it hasn't helped. Today I took it to the dealer and while I was there the problem could not be duplicated (figures!) so as far as they are concerned there is nothing wrong with my car. I suspect it is probably a faulty remote, but I would prefer not to shell out $100 for a new one from Scion without knowing if that is the problem. Hopefully it is not the actual Scion Security system installed in the car (not that I even know how I would find that out if the service department refuses to look at it).
Has anyone else experienced this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The problem I am having is most likely due to either a short in the remote or in the actual security system in the car. Thanks for the advice though!
Has anyone else experienced my exact (or a similar) problem?

Hmmmmmm... You should have received two remotes when you got your car. What does the second remote do?
If it behaves the same way, there is likely a problem at the xB's end, if it always works correctly, the first remote is likely the problem.
I would think that either way it should be a warranty issue...

I was one of the original xB owners out here in California so I only got one remote. I never recieved the card in the mail that would have let me have a second one for free so I was stuck with just the one even after pleading with Scion HQ.
I hope this is a warranty issue. However, unless I can get the problem to happen when I am at the dealer it isn't a problem to them at all. The service writer told me today that if you were sick and throwing up all over the place and went to the doctor unless you could repeat the problem there he would send you home too. I'm glad that Scion service writers aren't doctors.

My new keyless entry remote came in the mail today and after programming it and trying it out I am still having the same problem. When I try to unlock my car the alarm goes off. Since I am certain now it is not the remote I am curious to see if anyone else has had a problem with their Scion Security. If I can ever get this problem to repeat at the dealer would it even be covered under warranty?
Well, I assume you have the manual for the Scion xB VIP Security system, but if not, here's a copy (warning: 3Mb pdf):

The system really should work like that, and if it doesn't there is something wrong with it. If it's the Scion VIP that has failed, it *should* be warranty, but ask the dealer to make sure.
(I haven't heard of anyone else having that sort of trouble with their system.)

i didn't even realize we had a security light

I have the options on mine set to automatically arm the alarm 30 seconds after the last door is closed after I turn off the engine and remove the key. That way even if I forget to arm it, the car protects itself as best it can.
Well I just saw that my light flashes now...I had to look at it at night. I seem to hit the panic button on the back a lot without knowingly doing it. I then push the unlock button and the alarm won't stop like the manual says. The alarm keeps going and the door will unlock for 1 second and then re-lock when I push the unlock button. I have to fight with the door to get it open and I have to start the car to get the alarm to stop. Is this happening to anyone else?
One suggestion, Matt: Don't push the panic button...
As to not resetting with a push of the unlock button on the remote, I haven't seen/heard of that one before.
If the alarm system is not behaving as it should according to the manual, it should be looked at by the dealer. If it has failed in some way, it is likely under warranty (assuming the user didn't break something and that the time/milage is within warranty range).
Good luck!

I figured it out...you must always use the remote to lock and unlock your doors. I was locking the doors from the lock button in the car. I thought I was crazy, but my friend told me about it and now it's fixed.
