Default Leg room

Has anyone successfully increased the driver leg room.....you know, moved the seat tracks back or some other way?

I'd love to get some suggestions, parts sources or whatever. Thanks,

You think there'd be any way to modify the rear seats to where they can recline? The tC has that option, why can't the xB have that same option as well? I think that it's more fitting to have that reclining back seat in our cars than the tC, don't ya'll think?

Actually, I think it would be cool if you could get universal rails and then put 2 reclining bucket sport seats in the rear. But I'd say put the post in the "dear scion" forum and hopefully the correct people will see it.

I kind of wish the bottom of the seat tipped up a little. I'm 4'11 and my left leg dangles and a lot of the time i'm driving with my tippy toes if i dont wear heels haha....otherwise i'm chokin on the steering wheel. I think the dteering wheel should drop down a little further too..

Why does it matter to you guys how tall I am....maybe I'm just peddelphobic!

The truth....I'm 6'3", but I guess a little more leg than torso...Also, my xB is a stick and with the third peddle, there's no room to streachout.,....plus, sometimes my accelerator foot hits the little heater duct thingy and I can't step on the gas all the way. I'm not looking to drive from the back seat, like some on the other posters, just an inch or two more would make things lots more comfortable.

So....back to the original question....any ideas other than amputation!

You can get longer bolts for the front of the seats and stack some washers in there to make it more comfortable. First car modification I ever did, one of the best ones, too.

You can pull the carpet up and take the foam bump thing out. It'd give you a little more room but the carpet wouldn't go down right.

I've got one for you guys. I think the leg room is fine, but the way I like to drive, I need the steering wheel to come out more. I wish xBs had a telescoping steering wheel, but since they don't, does anyone know of a product/mod that can push my steering wheel closer to me? The only other thing I can think of is to get a different steering wheel with long bolts and lots of washers or a spacer. Any ideas?

Well, actually I wouldn't get my arms shortened, I would get them lengthened. I want to sit back more and have the wheel closer to me, like a more sportier feel. I'd like to have my legs stretched out in front of me with my seat reclined slightly and the wheel almost in my lap. Right now I feel like I'm driving a minivan or something and I think I'd be more comfortable if it felt like I was driving a car.

I don't have a problem with the leg room but I do have a problem with the seat being to short. I sometimes feel like I'm going to fall forward out of the seat. I think I'll try adding washers to raise the front of the seat like someone once suggested on another forum.

Moving the seat mounts back might be difficult because it's mounted to a beam of sorts. You'd have to fab up some risers. Plus you would have to worry about the placement of the jack.

It's dark out so I can't look but take a look and see if you can bend the seat stop and let the top rail slide back farther than normal. Just be careful not to let the ball bearings come out if you can get it to move.

Actually it is considered a station wagon. I've driven other station wagons and minivans, and I'd have to say that station wagons usually drive like cars (with big asses) and minivans drive, well, like minivans. I knew a guy who suped up a station wagon (it was an older Chevy with a 350 in it) and it was badass. I'm just saying the outside of an xB is sporty (at least mine is) so why shouldn't it feel like that when you sit in it. I don't know why the seats sit so high; my only explanation is that so you can put amps under them. Has anyone put a different steering wheel on their boxes?

Well, I am 6'6" and I find myself pretty comfortable while driving. The height of the seat, matched with the leg room yields a pretty comfortable driving position. I could use an extra inch or two though. When I'm on a semi-long trip my leg starts to cramp up. But, I haven't found a car yet where that doesn't happen. I also just came out of driving a Crown 'Vic. One of the coolest things is I could fit in the back seat while I was driving. Nobody can believe the amount of room in the thing.

I'd love to get some suggestions, parts sources or whatever. Thanks,
I don't own an XB for the lack of legroom up front (I'm 6'7"). It's more cramped than my '87 Accord. I couldn't believe it, I was so bummed. I love everything about the car, but I just can't do it comfort wise. The XB could easily have the front seats that move back an additional 3" without crowding anyone in back... SIGH...

I have not done this (will explain later) but my idea was to get some rectangular steel tube (3/4" x 1-1/2" by .120" wall thickness). Lay each tube down so it covers the front and back mounting holes. Measure the distance and drill completely through the top and bottom with a hole the diameter of the bolt. Then, drill a larger hole through the top so the head of the bolt will drop through. You can then drill new holes in the top portion of the tube for the seats to bolt onto. You'll probably need to do the opposite of the first four holes (small hole on top, bigger on bottom) so the bolt can go up through the tube and put the nut on top. Note, this arrangement causes you to lose 3/4" headroom, but that's probably not a problem (wasn't for me). All this assumes that the floor isn't too "lumpy" preventing the tube from laying flat (I don't know if this is true).

I haven't done any analysis, but assuming you only bolt the seat back 2-3 inches, I think this is plenty safe. However, I decided not to do this modification after reading http://www.tall.org/clubs/ny/tcnyc/R...ing_a_car.html I recommend you read this and take it into consideration.

Hope this helps.
Dale
