Looking for Advice with Keyless Entry
I recently bought a used 2006 Scion xB base model. I've only received a key that isn't factory and no key fobs. I've tried the procedure to program a fob I bought from eBay
but it's not working because I can't get the car to recognize "insert key into Ignition".
There's no beep or light or anything unless the key is actually turned to accessory or on position.
Scion xB (2004-2007)
1. Driver's door open, key removed from ignition switch.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert and remove key from ignition switch twice.
3. Within 40 seconds, close and open driver's door twice.
4. Insert and remove key from ignition switch.
5. Within 40 seconds, close and open driver's door twice.
6. Insert key into ignition switch and close the driver's door.
7. Switch ignition ON and OFF once to program a remote while
retaining the original codes. Switch ignition ON and OFF twice
to program remote while erasing the original code. Switch ignition
ON and OFF three times to check how many remotes are currently
registered or five times to erase all registered remotes.

That sounds about right, the locks should go up and down to signal its ready to learn a new remote, are there any signs of an aftermarket alarm installed? Aftermarket alarms can interfere with programming sometimes, especially if the alarm has ignition controlled doorlocks.
Here's a link for programming just in case

make sure your dome light is turned to "door" so that your light goes on and off when you open and close the door. thats what triggers the door pin. well, the door pin is what triggers that, and thats how its sensed open or closed.
